Yes! I can't wait. Bring on the White Mountain. I might as well tick it off. Getting back my cardio atm... however running in london is dull! & sometimes dangerous.

See you on the 8th!

Sorry for not posting sooner, Only just got Internet in our new house!
It's less than half a year to achieve your remaining goals so now's the time to really get cracking! It looks like Harry and KEEN FRESHER are making excellent progress!

As for me though:

Sport routes-0 of 7- it'll only take one day...
Alpine routes-0 of 7- looking pretty unlikely now with no trip planned :(
Trad routes-28 of 35- 80% there! And that's all been within the last 2 months despite none ideal weather, not many multipitches though.
Winter routes-2 of 13- it's quite a long time until it could snow.
Boulder problems-251 of 327- 76% done. Still on track for this, but haven't been doing much bouldering recently as I'm recovering from from a pulley tear and got side tracked by trad.

Font 7C- This has been put on hold to let my finger recover, but it feels like it's nearly healed now and we just got a beastmaker, so I'll have no excuses not to get this done by the end of the year...
Fitness for Font (3 font 7s in font)- Font went pretty well, did 3 or 4 font 7's and had a good time. The weather was nice and cool so despite (or because of) the odd shower conditions were great which probably helped.
10 pull ups in a row- haven't done any for a while so probably can't do this anymore...
New routes- Got one done! It was pretty exciting to walk to the bottom of a biggish (multipitch) crag pick the best looking line and then just go for it, truly onsight! It turned out to be severe and good climbing for the first 2 pitches then an easy scramble/solo to the summit. The rest are winter climbs or boulders I'd need to be climbing well to do.

All in all Progress made, one minor set back and still plenty of time to get things done! I just hope the weather picks up...

Sport shag 7b or at least shag more 7a+ routes than last year (including one or two DWSs and some stuff at Anstey's Cove/Malham)
Onsight Freeborn Man
Boulder 7a+ (not just slabs)
Lead First Blood, Pleasuredome and Clean Hand Blues Band (clean) in Pembroke and something in the leap
Lead The Tippler and Telli at Stanage
Stay away from snow

One 7b (according to ukc) and maybe more to come at Llanymynech.
A few 7a+ routes in the bag including one dws.
Freeborn Man - this weekend perhaps!
Bouldering - Mats, pah, what a hassle when the water is already there. I'll have another think about this later in the year.
Pembroke - Carreg-y-barcud was lovely...
Telli - done (eventually). The tippler - maybe next year.

Now that the summer holidays are over and term has started again it's time to really knuckle down and get climbing!

The final quarter is upon us so I hope everyone's getting on well and are close to doing what they wanted to at the beginning of the year!

For me:
Sport routes-0 of 7- I should propably get this sorted before it gets too cold.
Alpine routes-0 of 7- Not looking very likely.
Trad routes-55 of 35- Done! Really pleased to have completed this goal, especially as the weather is getting less and less tradish.
Winter routes-2 of 13- No winter yet but getting pretty excited for winter and the Scotland trip!
Boulder problems-386 of 327- Done! Didn't expect to finish this so soon, especially with all the days I "lost" to trad!

Font 7C- The last couple of quarters have been mainly focused on trad although looking back I got quite a lot of bouldering in! This is going to be my new main focus, my action plan is... boulder lots (and maybe a cycle of beastmakering).
Pull ups- haven't paid this much attetion but maybe I'll do some more with winter coming.
New routes- Its been too wet for the boulders I want to do and not cold enough for the winter.

I also have a new goal:

Catch up with Laurence on the number of routes done multiple ascents of routes don't count so just 304 to go (and any others he does in the mean time!) this is going to be tough!

How's everyone else been doing?

Been tradding it up a lot this summer which is good, also with a bit of sporty sport in Alps and Ceuse :D

Consolidate HVS and E1 trad Now led 25 HVS, 12 E1
Lead E2 ?!? Led 5 E2s clean now! Gotta find myself a non-slate E3
Boulder Font 7a Not done much more bouldering though apart from Jack's "hardest 6b in the world" in Ailefroide
Lots of DWS in Summer! Only 2 days of this with more cancelled due to heel injury :(
Get lots more alpine mountaineering done in Summer Got the Alpine rock ticked, more Alpine white stuff next year hopefully
RP 7a indoors? Redpointed my first 7a outside in Ceuse!!! Would have got 7a+ in Torbyran Quarry if it weren't for the above pesky heel.

Good question! The short answer is loads and none! I'm going to have a look at loads and see what seems possible for me, then focus my climbing towards getting better at that style. Gonna have a look at the nesscliffe ones because it's close by, but also maybe some classics like jerrys roof or some grit ones like spring voyage... There are just too many to choose from!

Also sounds like you've been keeping yourself busy KEEN FRESHER! Good work! And I'm glad to hear I might have a chance to catch up with you Laurence!

I'm keen to get to Nesscliffe over the winter. I'd completely overlooked it as bouldering venue for a long time until this year. The Little Northumberland bloc has got some excellent problems on. I'll give you a shout if I head that way.

I hope everyone had a good Christmas and new year! It's time to look back and chuckle at how ambitious we all were, and bask in the glory of what we all got done!

For me:
Sport routes-0 of 7- This never happened as I was too focused on other aspects of climbing and I just didn't really make the effort.
Alpine routes-0 of 7- I didn't manage to get out to the alps climbing this year, maybe next?
Trad routes-55 of 35- I'm really pleased to have got back into trad a bit more, it's been fulfilling and fun. I'm definitely keen for more! The Highlight has to been a couple of trips to Craig yr Eglwys, a newly developed crag 10 miles from my home town.
Winter routes-4 of 13- I could have definitely squeezed a couple more winters in, but I'm pleased with what I did, highlights have to be trying not to get blown off red gully with Harry in 100mph winds and the little bit of ice Rosie and I did in the peak!
Boulder problems-445 of 327- I did lots of bouldering this year, and had some really good trips, Font, Baslow with friends in September, and being pleasantly surprised by Stoney with Harry T, Rosie, FISH CHUGGER and KEEN FRESHER were highlights.

Font 7C- Didn't really get very close to this, but never really made enough effort to work on my weaknesses.
Pull ups/fitness- tailoring my fitness for what I was doing seemed to help, arms for font, legs for skiing and Scotland etc. going to work on this more over next year.
New routes- I did one and it was fun!

Catch up with Laurence on the number of routes done (multiple ascents of routes don't count)
I started the year 255 routes behind and and ended at 367, so went backwards. However if you include repeats I made some ground, I just need to go to more new places!

Overall 2012 was a good climbing year! Not so great weather wise (Rosie and I got soaked so many times trying to squeeze in trad between rain showers) but still plenty of chances to get out! Thanks to everyone who organised and came on trips and to all those who went climbing with me. Here's to next year!

Boulder Font 7a Got first 7a+ in Stoney and done 2 7as in Stoney and Churnet :D
Lots of DWS in Summer! Only 2 days of this with more cancelled due to heel injury :(

RP 7a indoors? Redpointed my first 7a outside in Ceuse!!! Spent 2 and a half days on Barney Rubble (7a+) in Torbryan Quarry to no avail. Got so close!

Good year with 476 new logbook entries :) Improved in trad, sport and bouldering :)

By next year, I aim to:

- Buy ski touring ski's and go on a proper ski tour!
- shag Berlin's Fallen (Nesscliffe) - I really can't let another year go by still only one move from the end!
- Finish knitting Tom's jumper (by Font in April)
- Be able to boulder (some) V5's (outdoors of course)

Then theres the generic ones like: do more winter, bouldering, trad etc.etc.

Wish me luck :salut:

So to wrap up 2012....

Well I did end up investing in some second hand ski touring kit AND I'm glad to say it has not only seen some good use on the powder filled slopes of La Plagne but also on the gloriously wild terrain in Cwm Lloer, North Whales.

After many a summer evening after work at nesscliffe failed to see me send Berlin's Fallen, my new tactic was to go away, shag new things in new places, then return with fresh eyes and a renewed vigor. Unfortunately, I think I took the plan a little too far and ended up rediscovering my love for trad in the process! I think it is important to be open to doing things you might not have thought you'd be doing at the beginning of the year. This strange and unexpencted turn of events allowed me to do some excellent routes with stunning backdrops! Although Berlin's was put on the back burner there's no doubt it will make an appearance on my 2013 wishlist.

As for the knitting, I did manage to finish the jumper before Font in April and many more knitted garments have been created since. I don't think I need to set myself any more knitting aims... the world just doesn't need that much knitwear!

Finally, I did manage a few V5's, the most satisfying being a traverse at Cae Ddu.

Highlights of the year include:
- Tom Green and James Brewer winding up certain members of Bath University Mountaineering club in Font over the great debate of the true line of Science Friction. "Are you tying to say im doing it wrong?!?", "....err....yes?"
- Knowingly committing myself to leading 'Just a Minute' at Craig yr Eglwys and enjoying every second of it (in the moment fun, not just retrospective!)
- Watching spindrift swirling up over the top of the ice pitch on Alladins Mirror Direct then it suddenly dumping down the back of Tom's bare neck.

Its been a great year and all thats left is to wish everyone an adventure filled 2013!

Sport 7b - Did a 7a+ and several 7as.
Boulder 7B - Did 2 7A+s and several 7as.

Walk my 100m slackline at its full length - Walked 60m, it's just a matter of rigging a long one...
Walk a highline - No.

Get a first - Yes.

Not bad overall. Definite progress despite doing no 'training'.

Done Sort of done Not done
