I'd like to know who and how many people are interested in a first aid training course and also when you can attend.

I’m planning an ‘Out-door Activities First Aid Course’ designed especially for our sort of activities. It covers all the basic/standard first aid topics with an emphasis on those relevant to emergency first aid in the out doors and in more remote locations. There will be indoor theory and outdoor practical / scinarion type work. It is a fully certified and recognised award of a high enough standard to be held with SPA, BCU, BELA and such qualifications. It is valid for 3 years - a well worth experience, especially for people serious about climbing.
More info about the course here.

Cost is between £55 and £82 depending on numbers. It could drop to £45 if enough people are interested and this other guy is available. [Also investigating further sponsorship so fingers crossed]. Obviously it gets more expensive with less people so the more the merrier. It would most probably take place in the Guild, 9:00 – 5:00 on two days.

It can either be done in 2 days together (i.e. weekends or during the last week of Easter holls), or on 2 separate days. He is very flexible so…below is a list of dates, please post with when you can attend and I’ll take it from there.

Dates: 19 – 20th April (weekend or just one day)
23, 26 and or 30th April (a combo of Wednesdays and a Saturday)
Or possible any time during week of 21st April

I did this a couple of years ago and it was well worth it. Yes it takes a couple of days and costs a bit, but the kind of skills you learn are well worth it in my opinion.

I'm interested! What sort of skills do you go though Starley? Was imagining doing it on the side of a mountain somewhere but I'm sure we can improvise with fans and such at the guild :) When do you want money by?

They go through the cpr side of things, but also stuff for broken bones, sprains, severe bleeding, hypothermia, a bit of stuff about spinal injuries... All from an outdoorsy point of view, so that you're getting sensible advice/answers to questions from someone who knows about it rather than someone who does first aid at concerts and has never really had to think about a big fall or hypothermia or anything like that.

definately worth doing! If its the same guy, then he's a ledgend! We even did stuff like making stretchers out of a single rope and even a person backpack/carrier out of a rope!

Right…listen in….!

Trying to sort out possible dates that we and Stuart, the first aid dude, can do.

He can either do it in 2 days together (i.e. weekends or during the last week of Easter holls), or on 2 separate days. He is very flexible so…below is a list of dates, please post with when you can attend and I’ll take it from there.

Dates: 19 – 20th April (weekend or just one day)

Well Tommy, I have no idea if the certification will mean anything back home, but having the skills could never hurt. Depending on what days it falls on, I would be down for doing it.
