One question about zombies that zombie films just don't seem to answer...

Well of course they can, but generally they are pretty bad and mostly they just float around aimlessly

So a sea getaway would be a good idea then!

After extensive research in the topic I have come to a conclusion similar to what Rosie said.

Because they have an unfunctional cerebrum and "Swimming requires a complex coordination of movements of major muscle groups" then I reckon they'd be pretty inefficient however they would probably float.

The same article also mentions that it would probably be a bad idea to isolate one's self on a boat, however.

I agree.

I believe they can swim in the sense than they can float and propel themselves to a certain extent. However, I don't think you'd be catching them at the olympics winning any freestyle medals. So a sea getaway would be good, presuming you're not swimming into the sea yourself without some form of seafaring craft, that wouldn't be good.

If you had a small island hideaway you would certainly have an advantage over hiding out on the mainland.

Being stuck on a boat with a zombie stowaway on the other hand would be less than ideal.

FYI ... great site. But don't get me started on zombies ... Nazi Zombies = great game to play. Zombieland! = Awesome movie to watch, with some educational tips as well on how to survive the upcoming Zombie Apocalypse. I'll leave it at that.
