For those who shotgunned any of my stuff, I'll be in Wolvo/Brum on the 10th & 11th. If anybody wants to meet up to try on stuff & take it off my hands in advance of the trip. Please let me know. 11th is better as I can book a late train back to london, and sort out stuff in brum in the moring.

Or if anybody just wan't to meet up for a chat, drinks & banter. let me know. :)

I'll get in contact with you nearer the time about meeting up that weekend so I can take those B2's in advance! :)

Maybe go for a pint or two as well...

Cheers

Hey guys. Anybody ex-skateboarders? / got a spare fiver? - get a trackless skateboard. & use it for you know what for: Board-tobogganing! :D My last Scotland visit entailed some fun tobogganing times. I'll be packing away my "board" with me. Certainly a lot smaller than hauling up skis & boots! :)

Do it! :)

How are we looking ropewise? I'd prefer not to have to bring my doubles but will if they're needed..

Well... the question you should be asking is.. "To look like a douche, or to not look like a douche?"

Do your trousers have built in gaiters? - If so, then your sorted. Gaiters a) Sweat up your legs like no tomorrow b) make your calfs and ankles more baggy than trousers on their own = more likley to catch your crampons on them. c) make you look like a complete Wayfairy.

As a mountain guide in the Alps once told us: Stay Cool, Be Cool, Look Cool. - You certainly don't want to overheat, sweat then proceed to chill down to ridiculous levels. You need to have a cool head about you when climbing, panicking certainly doesnt help matters. And of course, if you can hit the first two points, you will definitley look cool. Funky colours make you easier to be spotted as well as adding a bit of "style" lol 8)

Gaiters make you overheat + are likely to make you trip and get flustered = you won't look cool. :?

I have chosen to look like a douche! (so as not to ruin my trousers)
I hope at least one other person will join me in this fashion statement.... Trust me, it is definitely going to be all the rage if we start wearing them 8)

Hmm, you may find yourself on your own there. This is why you wear cheap waterproof trousers which tend to already come with built in gaiters. I used to wear gaiters, (still bring them with me for some strange reason) - I only slashed my trousers above the gaiter line! gaiters infact remained perfectly fine! They should teach you better crampon footwork on the course which will minimise trouser slashing.

I wish I had a headband - definitley conforms with the Stay Cool, Be Cool, Look Cool motto!

Definitely don gaiters whatever JCB says as in my first week of crampon usage they saved my trousers more than a few times :P and I haven't experienced sweating up due to them and also in some cases with good fitting gaiters, they can actually slim down your legs leading them snag less. Also they stop powder travelling up your legs :P

Sometimes it's useful to wear gaiters, sometimes it isn't.

It's not black and white.
