Scotland 2013-14

The month of November is upon us, the BBC is forecasting the snowiest winter in decades, it can only mean one thing…. It’s time to get your psyche on for SCOTLAND!!!!

That’s right, it’s the annual UBMC trip to the Cairngorms- where ice climbing, mixed routes, mountain walking, whiskey tasting, ceilidhs and beards can be found in epic quantities! :bigsmurf:

The trip is running from the 28th December 2013 – 4th January 2014, so we’ll be there for New Year’s Eve. This means we’ll be dropping in on a local village’s Hogmany celebrations, with fireworks, live music and an entire street of Scottish country dancing! :rendeer:

For those of you who have no winter experience there is a 2 day winter skills course run by Pinnacle of Achievement available, which will give you all the skills you need to use crampons and ice axes in the mountains. This course is compulsory for novices and is subsidised by the club, meaning it is a bargain at £50 instead of £100! There are only 12 places though, so be quick!

The price for the entire week is £150 (plus £50 if you’re on the course). Sign up will start this Wednesday (13th November) at Redpoint so come and find me with a £50 deposit if you want to come! If you have any questions ask away! Places on the trip are limited, so get on it!

A date for your diaries is the 1st December, when we'll be having a navigation training session :)
10:30am in the Mandela Room in the Guild

We'll also be having a session at the gear cupboard at 3pm on 27th December to fit crampons to your boots and hand out any gear you need. Then we'll go for a curry in Selly around 7pm :)

GET PSYCHED!!!!! :thumleft:

All the places have now gone! :shaking2: Here's who's coming:

On the course:
Rachel L
Joe S
Nathan B
Sam Hunt
Starley
Murray
Josie P
Ed Johnson
Matt Cox
Hazel
Lizzie

Not on the course:
Me
Jack B
Josh D
Tom G
Rosie H
Harry Y
Mauricio
Sensei Chris Step
Rachel A
Josh Smith
Nick D
Ian Parkhouse
KEEN FRESHER
Pete
Jake

The main thing you will need to buy are a pair of boots which are B2 rated. It's worth bearing in mind that you can beg/borrow/steal from other members and also have a look at second hand stuff on UKC and eBay. I'll make a thread on kit in the next couple of days with a bit more detail. Also, only one place left on the course guys!!!!

Gear wise Aldi still have some thermals/baselayers in. Should be ok and some are merino. Snap them up whilst you can.

I may have a spare pair of size 6 B2's that I can lend out as I have now upgraded! :D

Also, if you find something on ebay/ukc that you like the look of but want to check/get advice if its the right thing, just post on here and we can help.
