Is it not possible to make it so anyone can upload (or link or whatever) photos? I'm sure you'd get more photos up that way

that is pretty much the idea of a flickr album linking... no system I can implement here will be simpler or easier to use that flickr nor there will be more online tutorials how to upload photos. Not to mention having to store all that photos on our server .. which is not really possible right now.

I will be creating a tutorial for this website, how to create articles, how to upload photos etc.

For help to upload pictures on flickr see:

Nice website guys, like the modern touch. However, I am quite sad to see no reference to "Feed the Rat", the spiritual father of the ubmc website.

Some of you new guys may not know what I'm talking about, but ask anyone from a few years ago and they'll tell you that Feed the Rat was the original ubmc web forum, and was set up by a guy known only as Uberwebsitefuhrer who, some say, can shag E3 with only his lips. The name refers to the book written by Al Alvarez about his friend Mo Anthoine; two legendary climbers who have all sorts of mad adventures - well worth a read. Feed the Rat is also a philosophy, quite relevant to climbers and indeed anyone with a sense of freedom and drive (see http://www.feedtherat.com/391.html )

Anyway it is part of ubmc folklore, and I didn't want it to disappear without a mention. If you feel you can spare a few kB of webspace for a brief reference, you'd be keeping many current and ex-stoats very happy.

Anyway good job on the new site, and good luck to the new committee.

Wow, thanks for that, really interesting, I've always wondered what Feed The Rat was, and now I know, what an incentive!

Good work.

I agree with Andy.

Also, there seems to be a distinct lack of trip reports - many which were available on the old site are now no longer online - will they re-appear shortly?

By the way, thanks for putting that photo of me ice-climbing back up on the website. There are few references to my early climbing days, so good to see one of the better ones has survived! The photographer was a Miss Jaq Tildesley I believe, who I should also thank.

Its also written on the Bus stop outside Mad Bernards campsite in Argentiere near Chamonix! Stoats get everywhere....

And great work on the website guys! Although disappointed my quote has now gone... Oh well.

PS - what's happened to the rogues gallery?

I really like the setup too, looks really professional and modern, good work - who has done it??

I do agree with stu however, the rogues gallery is a good way of introducing new members to old gits who often come to trips and encourages bonding between old and new members if they have heard about them before (also a good way of thanking the past presidents and general legends who have helped out a lot over the years) - and also makes them feel less sad when they keep turning up to hang out with freshers, young, fitter and stronger than them!

The rogues gallery will return soon. Good things come to those who wait.
