Right, you may have heard me mention this a few times, but this is the official plan for the UBMC Charity Everest shag March 17th 2010

What it involves is a team of about 7 climbing a wall in redpoint as many times as it takes to reach the summit of Mount Everest. Impossible, you say?

This was done two years ago by 5 members of the club in just 8 hours raising £500. Four of us were freshers and one of the group had literally started climbing a few months beforehand so it is possible!

This year I am hoping for 3 teams of 7 which should mean £2100 based on the last time! The money will be going to Mountain rescue/Air ambulances - exact details will follow soon.

How it will work: Each team will have one route, every member will do a set of 10 climbs and then keep rotating until all the climbs are completed. Everest is 8848m, Redpoint is 11.5m so each team has 770 climbs or 110 each!

I have a list of names but do come find me if you want to do this!

Thought I would put this off the initial post otherwise it may have been information overload!

A DEGREE OF FITNESS WILL BE REQUIRED!!!!

However with just under a month that is plenty of time to get fit enough. Things that we did to get fit:

Sets of 10: What you will be doing on the day so it is a good idea to do some of these!
Sets of 5: However these have a twist as you have to down shag each time! Trust me it gets hard!
Bouldering: Pick 5 fairly easy problems and do them one after the other with no rest in between. Have a short break and do it again.
Running: It can't hurt doing a bit of CV! We used to run to creation before we would train
Pull ups and dead hangs: Good to do when you cant get to the wall

For a really good training program chat to Byron our resident fitness geek :)

Hmm... 770 climbs? I would be tempted to do the lot myself. :-) I think it would probably be impossible to get someone to belay me 770 times though!

Although I would love to see how many I could do without falling apart.

Do this every year at Liverpool great day on the wall.

Last year made it in 4 hours between us I did 130 times on our 8m wall, we all went to town afterwards where I fell asleep on a couch in a bar lol.

Count me in if ya want me, i've known a few people to get help from the mountain rescue and have the utmost respect for them.

Teams!

Team 1:
Gareth
Connor
Sensei Chris
Wing
Alice M
KMFJ
Tom Hemmings

Team 2:
Jay
Harry
Jack B
Doug
Hayley
Georgie
Tess
Sophie

Team 3:
Rose
Dexter
Josh D
Josh S
Annie
Alaina
Sarah
Chavacs

Team 4:
Andy Cooper
Laurence Bird
JCB
Faith
Steve B
Louise
Hallie

I have made the teams quite big as there was so much interest and some people cannot make the entire day and therefore will not be able to complete as many climbs. It is up to your team how you distibute them.

If your team can come up with a better name and let me know asap I will set you up an online sponsorship page. Remember it is also a competition, fastest time and most sposorship!

I also made a mistake, redpoint is 10.5 meters tall therefore you have 843 per team but for 8 of you thats only 105! (with 3 members doing 106)
