KIT LIST
More important Items are in RED

A Rucksack (suitable for climbing, between 35l and 50l)
Suitable Boots (ask if you’re not sure)
A Water proof jacket
Waterproof trousers
A pair of Gaiters
Gloves, As many pairs as you can get your hands on
A warm hat or Balaclava (that fits under your helmet)
Trousers to shag in
Fleeces
Base layers - a few Thermal tops and a pair of Thermal bottoms or tights (Gareth)
Thick Socks
A Down jacket if you have one
A Head torch
Compass
A Water Bottle (1L)
Sun glasses and/or Goggles
An Orange Survival Bag
Clothes to wear when not climbing
A sleeping bag to use in the hut
Any personal climbing gear you own (let me know if you don’t have a harness or belay plate or helmet)

Basically it's better to have lots of warm layers that fewer thick layers and it's best to avoid cotton as it doesn't work well when wet.

If you have any questions please Ask!

MILF-Hunter, how does your soft shell hold up in proper bad weather? Also can anyone recommend a decent waterproof jacket if I don't go for the soft shell? Preferably costing less than the £350 some of the hard shells in Cotswold cost...

Well I haven't tested it in wet conditions but It won't stand up to heavy rain, it is more windproof than most waterproofs though and does stay warm when wet. You still should have a hardshell for emergencies though.

FISH CHUGGER: You'll deffo need a good hard shell for scottish winter, seconded by a soft shell for the walk in's and if it gets really bad. then u get the waterproof/windproof layer and a spare windproof for flexability (if u dont have both a simple pertx would a wise choice (~£20). Rock n Run a great value site i frequently use. www.rockrun.com > 'hard shell jackets' eg.
http://www.rockrun.com/products-Momentu ... J-MTMJ.htm
and
http://www.rockrun.com/products-Latok-J ... J-LATO.htm
we do get 20% off in cotswold so you know.

If you don't have a waterproof you'd be better off spending more money on one of those than getting a softshell (which are a bit of a luxury in my opinion whereas a waterproof is essential). T K Max is a good place to look, you can get some amazing bargains in there! You do have to be patient and root around a bit though! Rock and Run is great and they deliver really quick to! Also I've never come across a waterproof that wasn't totally windproof...

And that should be ok Krystina, but I can't absolutely promise you a bed. Other than that it'd be fine though.

FISH CHUGGER: if u cant get/afford etc a good waterproof, i can lend u my older one. it still works (ducktape over a small hole) just not perfrectly cause its a few years old.

BTW to avoid confusion Tommy and I think Tom are both referring to softshells as a single windproof layer where as I am referring to jackets like the montane extreme smock which are worn over the skin or a base layer and are a base layer, mid layer and windproof/lightly waterproof shell in one and I just whack the hardshell on top in wet/foul weather. Definitely don't just wear a windproof jacket and nothing else.

Thanks, I hadn't seen Rock and Run before, it looks good! I was in TK Max the other day, they've got all their ski stuff in and it's really cheap especially last season's stuff.

Tommy, thanks for the offer :) I think I'll get me a new one though, I do already have a waterproof it's just that it's pretty cheap and crappy and I've been meaning to get a better one anyway. The rab latok you pointed out looks good, they have it in cotswold for £200 so £160 with the discount.

And MILF-Hunter, don't worry I don't plan to just wear a jacket and nothing else ;)

I was in TK Maxx today they had £200 Marmot Waterproofs reduced to £69, they didn't fit me though, only had small and XL if you want to try. They were mixed in with all the ski jackets, seemed quite good, very lightweight.
