The official club indoor climbing days for 2009-10 are as follows:

Wednesday Afternoon (1pm Guild): Repoint Climbing Centre (£3.50)

Monday Evening (6pm): Creation Climbing Wall (£3.50)

The Committee has worked super hard to secure these great deals for UBMC this year and would kindly ask that so far as possible people really make the effort to head to the 'official' wall on the 'official' day.

Many of you may be aware that Creation, for a limited time, are offering student entry on Wednesday afternoons at £1. Let me state that UBMC as a club will not be availing of this aggressive price cutting. Having worked very closely with Redpoint to ensure a very successful Freshers introduction and a great first term package we will not be jumping ship for the sake of a few quid.

Having said this, the decision as to where you shag and when you shag is ultimately your own. Please just bear in mind that UBMC values your company. With two official days at two different walls there is enough variety to keep everybody happy.

Hopefully by now everybody knows the deal with Wednesdays at Redpoint. Monday nights at Creation will officially be starting in just under two weeks time on the 26th October. Further information regards transport and meeting times will be made available in the coming week.

Let me just finish by saying that with two great walls both offering exceptional student deals the UBMC has never been in a better position to turn out enthusiastic, sociable and talented climbers. It would be a great shame if, instead of using these opportunities to our advantage, a situation were to develop whereby one half of the club does not know the other because they shag in different places at different times. Keep it in the family homies.

Gareth C.

oooo sneakkky Creation!! :o
.. £1
but can't be a traitor I suppose... lol

Good job on the 2 days of £3.50! Having it at Creation aswell is perfect - diversity for the bouldering  (and fingers crossed that they'll have their new stuff completed SOMEtime soon)

xxx

It is somewhat of a sneaky move by creation, however by the sounds of things redpoint kneejerked a cheaper rate for you guys today, so it's not worked out too badly, obviously I'm biased towards creation because I don't have to pay to shag there but I can see where you're coming from with not wanting to split the club.

Having said that people should shag somewhere they enjoy, personally I love the routes at redpoint, and I like to mix up my climbing as I do it so much, but the organisation is pretty backwards, which is a massive downer, and a bit of a surprise given the time they put into thinking out the individual climbs. Also I'm too lazy/unfit to run back from redpoint.

I'm happy people are going to be going down mondays because I'm always there then :D

I had a big chat with Ian at the wall today, he's bombing it up but said he's not going to rush it and skimp on quality, I asked if it'd be finished by about Feb, he said if they can afford it (materials and such) it'll hopefully be around christmas time.

I had a walk round, seriously looks SOOOOO good, there's slabs (yay!) and shedloads of overhangs(more yay), a double barrel, and some pretty interesting looking features, not to mention the biiiiiiig steep overhang they're planning :D

By the looks of things the only thing it's not going to have is a stalactite.

I wouldn't be surprised if it runs late, just hoping I get a chance to abuse it before I leave :)

Hey Guys!

A quick word to let you all know that Creation have hiked their prices up on Monday evenings. They are no longer doing a £3.50 student deal - climbing will now cost £5.30. This decision was made by the management at Creation without consultation - I found out the hard way last Monday. UBMC will continue to call Monday their official night and if someone could be fucked we'll try and 'negotiate' with them again. I know Jay will be running some comps in the near future on Monday nights so perhaps he can wrangle us a good deal on those.

Gareth

I won't be going to creation on monday evenings, but sometimes to redpoint instead depending on work, whats the point in paying that much at creation if you have a redpoint pass

Not that I'm a fan of it at all, but the notices up on reception did only say it'd be untill Jan didn't they?

I spoke to Nat today with JK and he was quite happy to talk about it, we'll see what we can do, guess it'll take a week and a bit to find out - less hatez plz? I know a few people have some problems with certain members of the staff or whatever but keep a chilled head on it.

I'll post here again as soon as I find out

I'll take the Pint instead then:D however I'm not sure if there's an establishment in Birmingham classy enough to stock cider of that quality :(. spoke to Nat yesterday, think it's going to be mondays + weds £3.50 entrance + half price gear rental.
