Hey,
Am about to join this uni and was wondering what the club gets up to. I have been climbing most of my life but after a year out im not in great shape and can only lead about E3. Saying that I would love to start doing more sport (as coming from scotland there isnt much). I see most of your trips are either in Whales or on grit. Are there any sport trips?
Wish i was here for the dave macloed lecutre last year aswell. That man is a hero.

Hello!
This is what the club gets up to:
1 epic freshers trip to the peaks where around 50 of us will go shag and then have a massive party!
After that there is a trip roughly every other week, mostly trad but if you will find plenty of members who love sport.
Every other week we have a big social, last year these involved bar crawls, army fancy dress laser quest, stars in their eyes and a big xmas dinner.
Lastly we do a week long winter mountaineering week in the cairngorms which the uni help pay for!
This club is one of the biggest and most active in the university and the best thing I have been involved in at uni.
If nothing else come and find us at the societies fair on thursday/friday in freshers week, look forward to seeing you!

Hey Henry!

We have one trip which is 'just for sport'. However the trips to Yorkshire/peak, which are usually 'only trad', are within driving distance of a lot of sport limestone. --> I'd definitely be up for heading to Malham on the Yorkshire trip.

I'll also be trying to organise some sport day trips this year. There's loads of boulderers in the club. --> We also enter teams into university bouldering competitions, so get involved! Make sure you come and speak to us next week at the Freshers fair I'll give you some info.

As for only being at E3..... You'll still be leading harder trad than anyone else...

Cheers for the info guys. Im from a place called Elgin (the one with the haddie football team). Any one got any big plans for that stanage trip then? I went down for a week last year and managed to send Ulysses at the plantation. Don't think i would have a chance atm though, anyone up for a go at Censor at stanage pop?
Sorry if im getting abit carried away but well excited by actuly finding a climbing club at uni, didnt think there would be much going on at Birmingham. With all this talk of trips and comps I may end up failing this degree im ment to be doing!

Hi! & Welcome.

I'm sure somebody in the club will second you up some nails hard routes at Stanage, such as Censor if you want. :)

That is scarily plausible! I myself had re-sits this year due to too much climbing :/
Don't wanna worry you though, you get loads of free time in 1st year, so you'll be fine. What course are you doing btw?

Unfortunately Henry, we usually enforce an E4 minimum onsight standard before joining the club (Chalkstorm doesn't count). However, given that you're travelling all the way from Scotland we might be able to make a few concessions. If you can get up Archangel one-handed that should do the trick. Look forward to meeting you.
