I'm sure someone will put more info up soon, but just a heads up about the Conville course, which is a subsidised alpine mountaineering course run from Chamonix in the French alps each year. Its a great course and a number of UBMC members have done it over the years.

You can get more information at http://www.thebmc.co.uk/News.aspx?id=2957 and it is well worth thinking about if you are considering going to the Alps this summer. It costs £70 for 3 days tuition with a mountain guide (1 guide to 3 students) and is good fun. The course covers glacier crossing, crevasse rescue, moving together, using huts, doing an alpine route etc (or thats what I did!).

The deadline is 4th April.......good luck

This is a really good course guys! Amazing value for money, and you learn quite a bit out there!

If you've any questions give me a shout, or chat to Gareth, Rose, or Jake L as they too have been on the course.

If you want a hand in your application form, (tweaking it so you get accepted! :P) let me know. I'd be happy to send you a copy of mine if it'll help anyone.

It's an opportunity not to be missed!

Make sure you get in a lot about how anything you learn will be passed on to other members of the club. They like to give places to people who will pass the skills on :D

Alice's point is really important actually. They look specifically for people who have a little previous Alpine / winter experience, but lack the skills / confidence to did it independently or to a higher level and that intend to pass on the skills to others (perfect in uni clubs). Make sure you get this across clearly in the questions they ask!
