Just a quick (it was supposed to be...) update about what we're up to for the first few weeks of the new year!
Freshers Week - We'll be at Sports Fair on Wednesday 21st September and Freshers Fair on Friday 23rd September! come and say hello, hope to see lots of new and old faces there!
Redpoint - Our first indoor (roped) climbing meet is on Wednesday 28th September at Redpoint Climbing Centre! We'll be meeting outside the Guild of Students at 1 pm to take coaches to the centre, the coaches cost £2, there's a one-off registration fee of £3 and it's £3.50 to shag (c.limb)! Hopefully see loads of you there! Facebook event here: https://www.facebook.com/events/1163348567077342/
Boulder Central - Our first indoor bouldering meet is on Monday 5th Oct at Boulder Central! We're meeting at 6:30 pm outside the Guild of Students (we meet there a lot...) to take minibuses to the centre! It's £3 for transport and £4 for entry to the centre. Boulder Central have kindly offered to allow all UBMC members free registration for the month of October, so it's well worth a visit! Sign ups for the transport spaces will be at 11 am the same day, so keep an eye out for updates! Here's the facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/595132277314695/
Everest Challenge! - Finally, after it's hugely successful run last year we're repeating the Everest Challenge! It's on the same day we're at Freshers fair, Friday 23rd September! The challenge involves climbing the equivalent height of Everest in a single day, using only a 6 metre high mobile wall! Luckily our Everest is only situated in the Guild of Students car park so we should have slightly favourable conditions compared to the real deal... Anyone and everyone is welcome to come along and have a c.limb on the wall, we'll provide all the equipment you need! It's a good opportunity to have a go at climbing while also contributing to the running total on the way to summit Everest! We'll need 1475 ascents of the wall to reach the top, so every c.limb helps!
We're taking the opportunity to raise some money for Mountain Rescue England & Whales (W.ales) again, the completely voluntary emergency service that's invaluable to those involved in climbing, mountaineering and anyone interested in outdoor pursuits! Although we hope never to use them it's reassuring knowing they're there in case we need to. Mountain Rescue relies on charitable donations to keep running so please consider donating, all donations for our event go directly to Mountain Rescue! That's all for now, see all of you in the coming weeks! Have a good freshers week/final week of summer break!
xoxo
