The AGM will be held on Wednesday 4th of March in the Guild Council Chambers from 6pm

It's really important that as many of you as possible come to this. It is where you will decide who runs the club next year.

Candidates will need to be nominated and seconded by members of the club. There will be a round of speeches on why you would be the best person for that position and a round of questions will follow.

Once this has finished candidates will leave the room and the vote will take place. ALL VOTES WILL BE ANONYMOUS.

UBMC Committee Positions

President
(Executive Position)
The president has overall responsibility for the club, he or she chairs committee meetings,
supports the rest of the committee and generally oversees everything that goes on.
Talk to: Mark

Vice-President
(Executive Position)
Works closely with the president in the role of generally looking after everything and acts as
deputy to the president should he or she not be available for any reason. The VP is also
responsible for running Pembroke, the clubs health&safety and any training courses we run.
Talk to: Tommy

Treasurer
(Executive Position)
Responsible for keeping track of the UBMC money – a very important role. The guild provides
treasurer training so you don’t necessarily have to know the ins and outs straight away, but a
methodical approach and good attention to detail help.
Talk to: Luke

Secretary
(Executive Position)
Takes minutes at committee and general meetings, deputises if both the president and vicepresident
aren’t available. Records membership details and deals with the BMC.
Talk to: Laurence

Social Secs (2 positions)
Social secs organise our fortnightly socials which can be (more or less) anything they choose,
although a good balance between alcoholic and more chilled out socials is always a good way
to go. They are also responsible for running Stanage and the Annual Dinner.
Talk to: Michaf C, Rose, Laurence

Gear Secs (2 positions)
Responsible for buying, maintaining and retiring all the club gear as well as ensuring gear is
available for trips and Wednesday afternoons.
Talk to: Gareth or Phil

Mountain Sec
Runs the Scotland trip (a bigger task than it sounds) and organises any other winter climbing
related events that they want to bring in.
Talk to: Alice

Indoor Sec
Responsible for running our competitions, both the annual SCIUBL and BUSA and random
inter university ones that are run at their discretion, also organises the Munrow sessions in
the first term and any trips to other indoor walls around the country.
Talk to: Jack

Caving Sec
*
Exactly what it says on the tin – responsible for all things cavey, from trips to training.
Talk to: Rich

*Depending on the outcome of the next committee meeting the position of caving sec will be up for review at the AGM.

oow, it'll be sad to leave...but exiting to see the competition!

do seriously consider running for a position on the committee. it is a really rewarding experience, you're directly involved in the club, decision making and there are loads of perks too. the time and effort commitment is not really as large as you think; few hours a week may be and a day for 2 for the trip you'll run. it looks great on cv / applications forms for the near future and can provide great answers to those annoying competency base questions companies ask you.

the club depends on enthusiastic people to continue on and provide new people with opportunity of climbing past committees have enabled us to have.

Even if for some crazy reason you dont want to run for a position then come along anyway.
If you are a member of the club then you have a vote and therefore a say in who should run the club.

Honestly though being on committee is ace and I would recommmend it to everyone!

Yes. I am heading to the curry house afterwards as I did last year and the year before that.

I hope everyone is ready for this. It's a great opportunity to be an active member of the club and have a say in the way it is run. It's also really important for the succesful future of the club that people get involved!

There may also be one or two from the old and new committee going for a curry after the AGM, though this is not an official a club meal out.

Hi all,

My apologies for not being able to go to the AGM this year! I shall be working until the wee hours at the NEC getting ready for crufts, which starts thursday. Extremely annoying, but I can't afford to miss out on it! Good luck to anyone running for a position, and if anyone wants to come and buy doggy goods off of me I shall give any UBMC member a nice fat discount. Hall 2, "Dirca Design" stand- be there.

Love to you all,

Jimmy.
