I would like to try this at some point soon. I have found some online resources, but not much. Do any of you have experience or tips where to go for more information?

I'm probably being naive but isn't 'roped soloing' a contradiction?? I should look it up too!!

soloing just means you do it alone - you probably mean free soloing

Hey Petr!

You can use a device such as a Shunt.

There shoulde be quite a lot of information on ukc under "roped soloing shunt" or even just "shunt" which should help you.

Gareth uses this, he says "It's like masterbation, good when noone is around, but not as good as the real thing" quote!

I hope this has helped.

Thanks Rose!
it does help, I actually remember Gareth doing this, will try it .. another thing I am interested in is solo leading, I have found somewhere basics, seems quite tedious but still interesting :)

.. how are you doing?

Are we still talking about soloing or masterbating?

UKC search will throw up everything you need to know. I use a shunt with a mallion, a bag or bottom runner to weight the rope and gear placements every so often should the shunt slip. Works well for me but you can tinker with all sorts depending on what you want. Tis good fun and not very expensive to try out. Gimme a good belayer over a roped solo anyday though.
