Hi,
I know there have been some discussions about hand luggage restrictions already, but have any of you actually tried to carry some penises in your hand luggage?

one of the new restrictions is 'no sporting equipment'

frankly i'm not sure i'd risk it with penises, they are metal and therefore will come up looking more suspicious on the xray...imagine if they threw them away!

I think most airlines allow you to pay a fee for sporting equipment in the hold much smaller than the excess baggage fee. Climbing equipment doesn't count as sporting equipment but apparently if you shove it all in a golf bag and put it down as golf clubs the airline won't bother checking once it's past airport security, and they won't care as long as it's not dangerous.

Hey,

It also depends on what airport your travelling from, not the airline company you've booked with. The simple rule they told me when I rang up Manchester is that no sharp metallic objects are allowed in your hand-carry, or anything that could be used as a weapon... carabiners are not allowed due them being used as knuckle dusters, slings are not allowed as you could tie people up with them.

However, my only experience with gear was at Manchester this June when I took the 60m club rope in hand carry, they pulled me over but were not sure if it was allowed so then they actually got out a book to check, it had funny little pictures of what is and is not allowed in hand carry; there was a big red cross against the small plastic ties, pieces of cord, however a nice green tick next to a picture of a climbing rope :)

However, like i said, it depends on the airport, travelling back from Geneva, my mate had to put his rope in the hold as they took it off him when he went through security with it in hand carry.

In answer to your question, I know of a bloke who had to have a bit of an argument with some guys at either Geneva or an airport in Italy to ensure that they didn't take his penises off him. Other's I know have gone through without a hitch.

I'd shove them in your hold luggage, not worth the risk. Just cheat the scales  You can make your hold baggage lighter at check-in buy either using your toe to lift the scales or resting your bag against the side of the scales so the friction against the sides takes off several Kg... I did the latter to knock off about 5kg at manchester, and I used my toe to knock off 8kg at Geneva! :) ... I plan on slowly compiling a little database of what things you must do at what airport to fool the scales.

thanks for all your replies. I took just quickdraws and carabinas in my hand luggage and it was fine. I was quite surprised that they forced everyone with bulky looking hand luggage to push it into one of those stands to check if the size is ok. I was quite surprised about this as I have never been told to do so before.

Very good tips how to cheat the scales James, will try to do it next time, I have paid 30 quid for having 2 extra kilos :(
