Kit List

It will be cold, so make sure you're prepared! Good places to look for kit are UKC http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/i.php?f=3, ebay, Decathlon and TKMax. Try and borrow stuff or get it second hand, it's much cheaper! Also, don't forget we have a 20% discount at Cotswold Outdoor- ask a committee member for the code :D

Boots (need to be B2 or B3 rated)
Warm Socks (Bridgedale Summit ones are decent)
Thermal bottoms (the merino ones in Aldi are a bargain!)
Thermal tops
Trousers that you can walk/cl.imb in
Gaiters (optional but keeps the snow out your socks!)
Fleeces (mix of thick and thin+one for your bag as a spare)
Warm hat/balaclava/buff (needs to fit under a helmet)
Gloves (one thick waterproof pair and one thin pair to go underneath) BRING SPARES!
Waterproof jacket and trousers (maybe some old/cheap ones too for while you're getting used to crampons!)
Rucksack for climbing in (35l-50l)
Down/synthetic jacket (optional but warm)
Head torch and spare batteries
Goggles
Compass
Thermos flask
Water bottles
Orange Survival bag
Roll top dry bag(s) (optional but keeps stuff in your bag dry)
Harness, Belay plate/crab and helmet
Personal first aid kit
Normal clothes
Sleeping bag for the hut (it's heated!)
Pyjamas
Teddy bear

-If anyone has a group shelter then those would be useful (I have a 4 man one)
-Does anyone have any of the laminated maps/topos from last year? I'm going to do some more but it'd be nice to have those too.
-Also, if anyone has any kit they'd be happy to lend out please post it up (if you want to borrow stuff then ask here)
If you're not sure on what to get then feel free to ask!

Remember beg, borrow and steal!

I really think everyone should have one!

You can get them for only £10 and could save your life. Its not that difficult to get separated from the group (as happend last year with another university group in the cairngorms) and is definately more important (and less expensive) than a thermos!

Also, Decathalon is a good call for clothes and some gear.

As I said on the actual scotland thread, I have some B2's up for borrowing which are a size 6 (probably better for the narrow foot as they are womens specific). Sam - if they fit you, you are welcome to have first dibs (note: I am a 5.5-6).

I agree! The club is going to buy some, so each pair will have at least one. The more the merrier though! :)

Everyone needs to know how to use one as well if they do get separated! But yeah I agree it's more important than a thermos lol.

If you get cold feet like me I definitely suggest bringing slippers as well as it's a nice cozy option to wear in the hut - much better than shoes :D

Hey rosie, I am a size 6.5- 7... if those b2's don't fit sam could I potentially borrow them? (or at least see if they fit!)

I take it you guys (Sam, Rachel, anyone else that fancies trying my boots on) go to Redpoint on Wednesdays?

If so, I can ask Tom to pop in so you can try them on.

Failing that, I'm usually working in Birmingham on Thursdays (and work is closeish to redpoint) so I could meet (again at Redpoint) on thursdays.

Let me know whats best!

Just a word of warning, I am a 5.5/6 so if your feet are bigger just make sure there is some space at the ends because when you are repeatedly kicking your crampons into ice (optimism?) you don't want your toes to be at the very end or they will get hurt!
