I just thought that I should let you all know how annoying and shit "emoticons" are.
Does this annoy anyone else or is it just me?

I also don't understand the need to quote the entire paragraph that someone has written if your post is next? Are peoples short term memories really that bad?

Sorry, I had to do that.

But yeah, I'm generally not a big fan of emticons either. However, it is more difficult to convey emotion in text, because the person can't see your facial expressions or hear the tone of your voice. I think emoticons are an attempt to compensate for that. People seem to overuse them though.

As far as quoting, I generally only do it when there might be some ambiguity as to what portion of someone else's post I'm responding to. And I have in the past observed misunderstandings because someone didn't bother to quote, and a third person wrote a post in between the original post and the response.

And while we're at it, what the hell do the xx's mean? I see people putting them on Facebook, like at the end of their message or whatever. What does that mean anyway?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN IT'S DIFFICULT, YOU STUPID FUCKWIT!

Or maybe this would be less ambiguous if i ended with a :x ?

I think I'm with Mark here. x
(And the x means "i love you", which I do Andy.)

I think that's taking it a bit far Beardface, I think generally 'x' is a kiss. Like a quick kiss on the cheek, not a full on snog. Think continental not prostitute.

Just to clear my reputation, the 'xx' on the end of my thread was added by Tom. He's a sensitive soul.
