Felixstowe! It's awfull! I've been stuck here in 'the poor mans far east' for five weeks now and it's driving me insane! There is no respectable crag within a 50 mile radius of the area! No wonder there's no outdoor shops in sight! Argggh! :x

I never thought I'd get withdrawal symptoms from climbing, but it seems to have appeared in the form of cabin fever, due to being stuck in the same tiny B&B for 5 week after coming back from an active holiday in the Alps. And to make matters worse, I've three more weeks of this damned "work experience" (sitting in a metal shed on site for 10hrs/day]

Not really asking for sympathy, just wondering if anybody else has had a bland monotonous summer? [it just might make me feel a little better, lol]

Sorry this is just a rant, feel free to add to the places NEVER to go to in the UK for climbing!

sorry james, i've had an amazing summer for climbing! but i will say where i live is pretty rubbish. vale of york is the flattest place you've ever seen. no crags! none at all. on the upside everywhere's an hour away. everywhere.

Yeah I know! Judging by people FBk pages, loads of people have been doing loads of climbing! It good to know, yet depressing for myself at the same time.

Glad you've had a good summer climbing though.

OK if we're fighting for top spot in the climbing black-hole ratings i think I'm fairly close to the top. Being in a vale of chalk in Buckinghamshire, there are no crags and no hard rock. My closest outdoor crags are... avon (approx 2 1/2 hours) and Peak District, going via Birmingham (3 hours).

And the frustration doesn't end there: closest indoor wall - tiny bouldering area and leading tower at Oxford university (40 mins) or centre in Amershame (40 mins)

..... luckily having time of work has let me get the £3.30 train to Brum and enjoy some 1 and 1/2 hour journeys to various crags

In Birmingham, on days when the weather is ok, when people are asking you to go climbing but you have to do your masters dissertation.

Going to amazing yorkshire crags with tess' dad who wants me to lead all the time! O hang on people are saying bad things..............

Best thing I've seen all summer, sitting at the top of a great Yorkshire VS and watching John Baston doing press ups to 'warm up'!
