Worth noting the prices of a lot of short haul flights are going up because of increasing fuel prices and environmental taxes and whatnot.

the first time i went to the alps with andy and martin, my hand luggage was a carrier bag, and i think i scared some people by putting my helmet on during the flight!

I can't make it this year, which is gutting for me, but you all should go so you can have the chance of meeting Bernard, the campsite owner, and his daughter - there'll be a prize for anyone that can pull her and live to tell the tale

Is there a website for the campsite?

I've aplied for Conville for 25-27th June, 29-1st July, 2-4th July in that order of preference and haven't booked flights yet but am going to for going out on Sun 22nd June and returning Tues 8th July with easyjet from Bham. So I may be mountaineering and will still go to shag if I don't get on the course, all of which may or may not be with stoats depending on if anyone else goes out then.

I don't think I stand much chance of getting your prize though, Laurence.

I've booked my flights now. I wet for B.A. as I wanted to have the 32kg hold baggage max, which you get free with B.A. making the price work out cheaper (£74.20 as oppose to about £84). I'm flying:
out on Mon 23rd June at 15:10 from Gatwick
in on Wed 9th July at 12:15 from Geneva

A few questions for those who have been before:

What did you type in for the pickup and dropoff address for Mad Bernard's when booking Chamexpress?

Did you take some Euros and a card to draw money out, or all the Euros you planned to spend? Did you take Euros or cards to the mountain huts?

Did you wash clothes there or did you take enough clothes to last you?

Is there a supermarket or god food shop in Argentiere?

Thankyou!

Hey Katie
I was thinking of heading out around the same kind of time as you so I might try and book a flight on the same day. Would probably make transfers and gear etc easier too.

The address for Mad Bernards is
Camping du glacier d'Argentiere, 161 chemin des chosalets, 74400, Argentiere
I took a few euros last year but mostly just went to cash machines. Depends whether your bank charges you. Take Euros for the mountain huts.
You can hand wash your clothes there which makes luggage a bit lighter. That said, take enough clothes to last you for weeks of torrential rain when nothing will dry!
There's a supermarket in Argentiere and you can buy milk and bread from Bernard. There are loads more supermarkets in chamonix (and you get a free bus pass to get there)

Tommy- when are you thinking of heading out?
Is there anyone else heading out around end of june time? Come on. You know you want to!

Fi: thanks! Yeah that would be good if we went on the same day and if we shared a bit of stuff, I was a bit worried about fitting all the gear and camping stuff into the baggage limits! I was considering booking a hostel for the first night so that there wasn't the possibility of having to set a tent up in the rain as I'll be getting there about 9 o'clock, the website's http://www.gitebelvedere.com/bv_uk.html if you want to see what you think.

Alice: ooh maybe it's worth it...

Hostel sounds like a good option. There's a campsite in Chamonix as well which is always an option if we get in late.
Its not going to rain this year anyway! Its going to be sun sun sun. 8)

dont go to the campsite in chamonix - its rubbish! its got worse facilities and is more expensive than bernards! its ok to go to bernards and just set up a tent at night, as long as u find him first thing in the morning and tell him!
