Hey all,
Next friday me and Harry are utilising our AU equipment fund to buy some awesome new guidebooks for the club.
We were thinking of making the purchase online, probably from needlesports.
We're looking for suggestions for guidebooks to buy (some will obviously be for cornwall) but got any thoughts then fire away!
Ready!
Go!

lol jay I dont think many of those are that useable by most club members (font 7's and 8's especially) however I would also love half of these guidebooks :)

Your right, I should have recommended Eastern Grit....

In reply to your post, I don't think there is a member in this club who couldn't, and wouldn't want to, do a route in any one of the places I suggested guide books for. It's very condescending to the club and it's members to suggest otherwise...

I was merely suggesting that most people won't actually have a chance to shag at those crags as they probably wont actually be in those countries
anyway what about peak bouldering?

there's a new tremadog guide out which is pretty good and would be useful to the club as the photos and descriptions are much less misleading than the one currently in use.

I would like to second Alice's post on the tremadog guide, and also mention the other climbers club definitive guides for llanberis and ogwen.

The only other additional comment is buying definitive guidebooks and not selected ones.

I think everyone knows that South East England is where all the best climbing is at. Southern Sandstone is obviously everyones first choice of rock as it is so soft that you are not allowed to use gear on it (top rope or solo only) and after the smallest of showers you are not allowed to shag on it for fear of wear and breaking a hold off! The best thing is that if it is raining you can save your money from paying to go to the crag (yes you do have to pay) and spend it on some of the excellent overpriced indoor walls in the area.

There is an excellent Jingo Wobbly guidebook on the area (those who have been to font will know this) It doesnt feature photos but instead has excellent drawings of yellowish blobs with faces with bowties to tell you what sort of shag it is.

I hope I have made a good case for this guidebook. I actually have one and would pay the club to take it off my hands!

Slight problem: South is full of one thing... Southerners..... :P hehe...Why don't we meet in the middle and go to Whales! [preferably north Whales]

Anyhoo.... re guidebooks. There is a valid case for getting NEW crag area guide books, as iterated by many people.

Students have HUGE holiday periods = plenty of time for them to go abroad and experience something new, sometimes just the once maybe. Why blow a load of your own cash on a guide book which is probably going to be used by an yourself once? When the club members in general may be going there several times over. I.e. a font guide book would defo get used, as would a spain ect.

If i remember rightly we loved that guide book! - It was amazing in europe, some of the route descriptions were brilliant! - I hope one of those were purchased!?

There is always a small group who go abroad, and the new purchases should be tailored more to that, we've a boat load of books for the majority, why not fine tune our library to encourage more exciting locations!?

I hope some 'foreign' books were purchased. ... Any on Alpine routes?
