So, it's the New Year. The festivities are officially over to the day (if you're in Europe), and we're all getting back into routine. As it's the time to think about what to do with our lives over the year, why not start thinking about what could the best part of it?

I've gotten a lot of questions about the "Summer Europe trip" from people who are new to the club, so here is the place to talk about it. I'm pretty keen to do something similar to last year - a combination of mountaineering and climbing. I'm leaning towards Switzerland this time, maybe do the Matterhorn.

It's a bit early to talk about dates, but term ends on the 14th of June so any time after that is game. The idea is for everyone to express an interest, share ideas and say when they're likely to be free, and anything else they want to add!

Let the discussion begin! :D

In case I haven't annoyed you enough with questions already, let me make myself clear: VERY keeen on the summer trip

A combination of mountaineering and climbing sounds awesome, I'd also like to do the course I've been hearing about. As far as dates are concerned, anything beginning late June/early July would work best for me, will probably be in Germany until then.

And just to put it out there, although I'm sure there will be loads of fancier options on the table: Romania (aka Gypsyland, as I know some of you affectionately call it, although there's rarely any at those altitudes lol) is always a very affordable option for sport climbing/mountaineering. There are some cool outdoor festivals going on in July/August giving the REALLY keen ones the chance to compete in quite epic trail running or mountain biking marathons and ultramarathons. You usually set base camp on festival grounds (in the heart of the Carpathians), participate in the activities they have organised or go do your own thing during the day and in the evening you can go to gigs or hang around camp fires, etc. It's a very cool experience, the sceneries you get are quite dramatic and you usually find people from all over Europe at this kind of things. I'm personally going to prioritize other options over this one just to break the habit, but if anyone's interested - especially if you're looking for something low-budget - it's definitely worth it and I can most certainly help.

That actually sounds pretty cool. Certainly more remote than the Alps, which tends to get very busy. But if people want to do the Conville course and get in, then that could be a problem. Although no reason we can't have two separate groups. Definitely keep it as an option!

I don't have anything to really add, but I'm very keen for some climbing over summer, so thought I'd register my interest early. :P

In terms of dates, the only time I won't be free will be early July, but any other time is fine.

Can someone confirm dates for the Cornwall Trip yet?

It will be up to the next committee to decide. However it is usually in the week after the exam period.

I'm keen for some sort of epic sport trip, not really too bothered about the mountaineering bit, i'll come before/after all that lark. As for the Romania thing, it sounds freaking epic and would like to say woooo to that! However, if all goes to plan, I'll be living it up in an American summer camp till about mid August, so if anyone's up for a quick late trip I'm game!

I'm keen for some mountaineering and doing the course. And some climbing sounds good too! I'd also be keen to take my bike and do some mountain biking (get the ski lifts up and ride down) if anyone was up for it. :D I'm free for most of the summer.

I think it'd be cool to do something around the UK in late August/September. Like a road trip to Cornwall and Devon, back via Swanage for some DWS!

This sounds awesome, always wanted to head down that area of the UK, never even been, and plenty of people live round there for an awesome catch up shag and pub sesh!

I like the sound of all these things, especially the Romanian mountain stuff. Also thinking of heading somewhere a bit further afield (finances dependant) but maybe Rocklands (South Africa) or the USA (Boulder/Eldorado/Yosemite?) Keen for something anyway. Last years' France trip was AWESOME :D

HEEEEEEEEY!

So I am SUPER SUPER KEEN for a summer trip. Am really keen for some mountaineering in addition to climbing, and also pretty keen to do the Conville Alps course. Would really love to go to the Alps (YES Switzerland would be AMAZING) although Romania also sounds cool.

Sounds like a lot of people are pretty flexible with dates which is cool... although sadly I am less so. Being a medic we have stupid holidays: mid May-mid June, then 3 weeks in August. I'm guessing a lot of you guys will have uni/exams (and then it's Cornwall) in the May-June period, so if a trip could coincide with my August holiday that would be AWESOME!

I would be massively gutted to miss out on this, so if August works for other people, BRING IT!

I'm definitely going sport climbing (and bouldering) somewhere, and it will probably be for a couple weeks in September after summer work has usually finished and before uni begins. So Robin, this may work for you...

Thinking about The Magic Wood in Switz and the Dolomites. Or/And Spain (which if Roxy is still out there, definitely gonna swing by where she is.)

So psyched to shag in the warm sun.

(On looking into it only just now, seems the Magic Woods would be silly for me to go to as it sounds like a lot of grades out of my league...)
