How is rope the closest when ab tat is basically rope that you don't mind cutting up and using it to abseil off? Does that mean it's long? Is it a cows tail for sport climbing?

No it's not long, you just wouldn't use it on ab tat although you could if you wanted to, but there wouldn't really be an advantage over the use of alternatives...
