Too slow old boy... Like I said, you'll have to wrestle Daymondo for them. Or just 'loose' him off a cliff? :?

Harry's borrowing my wind-stopper & my rucksack [good luck getting that off the vegan lass!]

Jack - just to confirm from last nights meeting, I would like to be collected from jn 19 on the m6. I'm guessing this might be the best place for Ruth to get dropped off too? Presumably I'll be in toms car since we will be sharing the driving, so we can sort out the finer details amongst ourselves.

Also, everyone else, don't hesitate to post on here if you are short of kit because people may be able to help. Louise - you mentioned something about lacking a coat? If you are more specific,
I might be able to help... I have a spare waterproof but it wasn't clear what you did/ didn't have so I don't know if this is useful for you?!

I have a waterproof, but I don't have a warm coat. I need to buy a new ski coat anyway - would that be good enough for this or too chunky? I don't really know what coat I need.... so many choices out there!

Generally you wouldn't use a 'warm coat' for actually climbing in because they tend to be pretty bulky, plus you're likely get too hot on the walk in (but thats not to say you can't use a 'warm coat' - it will be dependant on the coat and personal preference).

Normally, when you are actually climbing you may only be wearing a thermal, fleece and a waterproof, but this obviously depends on the conditions and again, personal preference. For walking in, I normally just wear a thermal top (and perhaps a waterproof if its windy) - its suprising how hot you get (and if you don't, you probably arent walking fast enough, haha!).

The times you might need something extra warm is at belays if your lead is being slow or in an emergency. This is where a down jacket comes in handy because it is light and compacts down small and you can chuck it on quickly. You wouldnt want to carry a bulky warm coat (such as a ski jacket) in your bag just for this purpose because you can easily make do by packing an extra fleece (or 2).

So I guess what I'm trying to say in short is that its all down to personal preference, but I understand you might not know what your preference is yet because you havent experienced the conditions etc yet.

If you have a waterproof and warm layers, then this is all you NEED. If you have a down jacket as well - then great!

....I hope that was of some help

That's good advice from Rosie.

More thin layers is definately the way to go, you can tailor what you wear for the weather conditions then, and it's usually a cheaper way of doing it.

The same goes for trousers, you're better off with a thinish cheap pair that you can wear long johns underneath if it's cold and cheap waterproof trousers over the top if it's wet. Then you can dress to suit the weather.

If you have thick clothes you were going to wear then they should be fine, but be aware that quite a lot of ski gear/cold weather gear isn't waterproof. And water proof clothes are really important if the weather's bad in winter.

Be bold, start cold. Whomever coined that phrase was right.

If your looking for some form of belay warmth I'm selling my Berghaus Extreme Ignite Hoody (Brand Spanking NEW) for £90 :o :D LINK
Its a great synthetic, it may not be as lofty as down, but should it get wet, you'll still stay warm. So you can just put it over your waterproof without any worry or faffing at belay stances. See the link for more info.

Also, anybody looking for some balance between wearing a fleece and a windstopper at the same time. I'm selling a Brand Spanking New Rab Vapourise Lite/Apline Jacket for £90  :thumleft: LINK
If you run slightly hot, the side pit vents will definitley help regulate your core, and the pertex outer with its DWR will be plesantly shower proof. See the link for more info.

They are both unused, new with tags on, if I had receipts I would return them. Sizes: both Medium.

Get in touch 07835926627 if your interested. I'll be in the Midlands on the 10th of December to sort gear. If you want to meet to try them on. Let me know! :)

EDIT: I also have an OLD Regetta 'soft shell' (lol) which I will sell for the task of getting my trousers out of the gear cupboard, my rucksack off Alaina Beacall, my sim card off Jake Lodge, and a pint. If you can get me all those four items, you get a "softshell"!! - it does actually bead water off if you put Nickwax on it. Its quite fleecy as well. :)

Should have a spare 35l(ish) backpack for someone to borrow if they like, would make a good day pack if you have dry bags.

Thanks for reminding me Rosie.
Just a reminder: the crampon fitting session is next Wednesday (7th Dec) at 12pm at the gear cupboard. So try to get your B3/B2 boots by then.
