It’s the moment you’ve all been waiting for.. Drum roll please……..
IT’S TIME FOR STANAGE!! It’s the annual tradition that you’d be crackers to miss: UBMC’s first trip of the year to the magnificent
Stanage in the
Peak District. If you’re new to the club, you’ll be introduced to
Meanie (a secret concoction of much, much alcohol),
Ming (a warm meal prepared by yours truly on Saturday night), the infamous ritual of
sock wrestling as well as lots more fun, silliness and surprises!!
WHO: Anyone and everyone is welcome whether you’re a climbing wizard or completely new to it.
WHAT: The best trip in the world! A chance to get to know your fellow stoats and do some climbing outdoors in the beautiful English countryside.
WHEN: Friday 9th - Sunday 11th October. Meet outside the Munrow Sports Centre at 6pm on Friday.
WHERE:We’ll be staying at Thorpe Farm Bunkhouses near Hathersage in the Peak District.
WHY: Why not? It’s arguably the best trip of the year!!
How much dollah??£40 for non drivers, £30 for drivers. How do I get in on the action? Sign ups for Stanage will be at the Wednesday Redpoint session on 7th October at 2pm. Bring along your £40 to secure your place. If you can't make it to the Wednesday session but you want to come to the trip of the year then message us at
[email protected].
To be able to come you need to have bought the Mountaineering membership on the Guild website before the trip. Don't forget to fill in the google form for insurance details when buying the membership! What to bring: Sun lotion (don’t forget your sombrero)
Warm clothing (enough for 3 days) - fleeces, hoodies, thermals, hat, scarves, gloves etc. - Even if the sun is shining down on us it can get quite chilly!
Waterproofs - We do live in Britain after all.
Walking boots or comfortable shoes to walk to the crag (and shag in if you don’t have climbing shoes)
Cozy pyjamas
Toiletries + towel
Sleeping bagRoll mat (if you have one - there are beds)
Headtorch
Personal first aid kit
Ice cream*
Inflatable dinosaur*
Climbing getup:Helmet and harness - if you have them. If not you can borrow club ones
Shoes - if you have climbing shoes, bring them. If you’re keen then it’s worth getting some (there’s a great shop called Rock On upstairs in Redpoint!)
No worries if you don’t have any!
If you have spares that you don’t mind lending out bring them along!
Food for the weekend - You’ll need food for the Friday evening as well as breakfast and lunch for Saturday and Sunday. We’ll be stopping at a supermarket on the way if you want to stock up. There are cooking facilities at the bunkhouse if you fancy yourself a bit of a Jamie Oliver, however bare in mind that 50 hungry climbers in one kitchen is always rather entertaining…
Money - Extra cash for general spending
, more food or drinks. If the weather is rubbish we may be forced to visit a café or indoor wall on one of the days!
Lots and lots of social love,
