Sorry to barge in again and it's slightly off topic. Some posts have said how sport is a lot safer, this is true as long as the bolts are still in condition and placed corrected. There's been a few deaths recently (not in Britain) where bolts have failed in sports routes. Sea cliffs are more prone to corrosion, especially if they're not the marine staples. And newly bolted routes need care in case they haven't been proply bolt.

There's also a big problem in Mallorca at the moment with old bolts that locals arn't replacing and then visiting climbers are getting injured after. Just a word of warning.

So true! Look at this.

It's a shame that people who defend sport climbing aren't more articulate and logical with their arguments.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

it cracked me up a treat, good one Jack.

Yes Jack I suppose it is interesting, but I think its gotten way out of hand in places and what started out with good intentions has turned a little sour. I chose trad and a lot of you probably already know that anyway, but i don't want to have to defend my choice and i'm not going to, besides most of what I would say on why I like climbing has already been said, and a lot of it applies to the other aspects of climbing that I like. In the end everyone is entitled to their opinion and thats the thing, no one is wrong in their choice. And issues of "the facts" have just become silly, where instead of correcting, people have, as Sam says, just been bitchy. If your preferred type of climbing is indoors climbing or sport climbing, then if thats what makes you happiest then good for you. If you want to enjoy sport climbing it can almost be guaranteed by going to the Alps, picking one of many good routes, take Starley with you and go through his bag of about 100 things you'll never need on a shag (like a french phrase book) on one of the belay ledges. I think Katie had it spot on when she said something like, lets all just enjoy climbing, for why we enjoy it. I think enough is enough, can someone please soon lock this thread.
