Has anyone on here got any DMM prowire krabs? I ordered some from Needle Sports, and they're a bit odd: the wire doesn't sit the whole way into the notch when the gate is closed, there's a gap. Like the photo on this page: http://www.hitchnhike.co.uk/acatalog/wi ... iners.html

Which would be fine, except the photo on the DMM website isn't like this, it has the wire sitting totally in the notch. If anyone owns any, are yours like this? Needle sports are meant to be trustworthy, and I've emailed them, but being bank holiday they haven't replied yet. It may just be that DMM changed the design slightly or something.

Hey,

Most of my snap-gates are phantoms and pro-wires. And what your describing is normal, from my perspective anyways. As long as the 'spring' metal still keeps pushing the 'wire' towards the nose, then there shouldn't be a problem.

It's also photo dependent, if you look at the pro-wire quick draws on the DMM site, then they are displaying the same 'gap' your describing.

I use a prowire/live wire combo and the gates on all mine fit flush with the nose except maybe a 1 or 2 mm gap on one or two - even solid gate krabs don't necessarily fit flush you just can't see it.

I'd use your own judgement as to whether or not you'd be happy falling on them, as long as if the krab was to bend open the gate would lock into the nose all is well, if it won't....problem.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I don't have a camera handy but mine look pretty much like the ones on the hitch n hike site I linked to. It looks like the wire would be pulled into the nose just fine, and the needle sports people replied saying they are meant to be like this (apparently if the wire sat right at the end of the nose, if the krab stretches when it's loaded it could deform the wire), so I'm happy with that.

I think the reason for that clearance is that the crab will stretch under heavy load and lock - to disallow its opening.
