Caving in the Mendips! 2nd - 3rd Feb

A weekend caving in the limestone hills of the Mendips! This trip is suitable for beginners and will be a good, fun introduction to the underground environment!

Times and Dates:
We will depart at 8am on Saturday 2nd Feb and return on Sunday evening

What to bring?:
- Normal weekend away gear (sleeping bag, toothbrush etc)

- Money for dinner @ pub in the evening!

- Food:
Packed lunch for saturday
Breakfast and lunch (quick) on sunday
Cave Snacks! (mars bars or similar energy boost which can survive being squashed!)

- 2 complete changes of clothes (just incase!)

- Cave clothing
Wellies (hiking boots will work here too)
Warm clothing thermals, fleeces (NOT JEANS)
Waterproofs
Headtorch (Petzl Tikka/Myo or equivalent) If you dont have one, let me know and we can hire one from cheddar for a few pounds.

Optional Boiler Suit (Reccomended)- This is hard wearing and will give you and your waterproofs/clothing protection from the rock. They can be bought relatively cheaply from camping/hiking shops

Cost: £18 (includes caves, accommodation and transport)

People on the Trip

Jo (HT)
Elia (HT)
Clare
Rich
Phil B

We are now meeting at the Munrow at 8am Saturday

Can I point out there will also be a climbing trip to the Peaks on the same weekend for those unable to go to the Mendips, or who dont want to go caving (if there are actually any :o ). Details posted on FTR on Wednesday and sign up at Creation in the afternoon.

Just to say that boiler suits are best obtained from the army surplus store on Harborne lane (mine was about 6 squids).

I think that hiring one is distintcly better than using a club headtorch - they're fine on the off chance you'll need to see a couple of feet to get along a path but relying on them all day in a very dark cave isnt a particularly great idea!

The light from the club headtorches doesnt carry as far. Its much better when you can see what you are doing and where you are :D. Good call though Alice!

Doesn't the club have headtorches?

If not, you can borrow mine. I'd offer you my waterproofs as well, but I think they'd be a bit big on you.

Don't think I'm going to be able to make the trip, I'm still feeling ill and am unlikely to recover in time.
Someone else can go in my place.

Who ever goes, make sure you enjoy it for me:)
