Michaf C, I do believe, as the creator of this thread, forefits are in order for those who break the rules.

Rule breakes - now those people really grind my gears. People who own cars thinking there higher and mighter because they don't have to take a train anywhere, and subsequently gloat about this fact have also be "getting my goat" recently.
- Now thats something which also annoys me, stupid phrases such as "get your goat!" and americanisisms suchs as "doing a 180" and "I shall speak with you later" "WITH?" you mean 'to' ! Grrrr

That sounds like a rant about not ranting. Tut tut tut, breaking the golden rule of the thread!

What also grinds my gears is people talking about how good their mates are to compensate for how shit they are. 'My mate has climbed 8b'.. Yes he may have done, but unfortunately you can't lead a F5. Just because your 'friend' is good, doesn't mean you are. Stop dropping E5, 8b into the conversation in the hope that somebody who gives a shit is listening, because nobody does. And just because you climbed a F6b once, at the wall, doesn't mean you can shag F6b, so don't keep telling everybody because it probably wasn't actually F6b.

You know what really makes me mad. Crag tools.

Sunday was a perfect example. The Wye Valley was crawling with them. Looking down about to throw down a rope to ab off and we see a man right below us with no helmet on (ooooo don't even get me started) we shout "rope below" and he doesn't move, we shout again and still no movement. By now we have had enough and throw to his right hand side at which point he looks up (idiot) unfortunately the rope misses him. When we get to the bottom he says, don't know why you shouted twice it would have been my fault if it had hit me. Sorry mate but before I realised what a prick you were I would have felt bad knocking you out with a rope.

Next I start talking to a guy belaying at the top of the crag. Again not wearing a helmet and an arrogant git our conversation turned to careers, he ran a hedge fund....... figures. I later heard him bragging to another guy "I've done all these climbs loads of times" what did he expect us all to start worshiping him and offering blowies?! Find a different crag to explore.

There were several more including two guys getting a stove out to make tea below a 3*HVS, a guy with a rope sling in regular use which was older than me and the guys that brought a dog that liked using ropes as a chew toy but I might explode so I will stop.

Phew that feels better now.

Michaf C, your rants brighten up my lunch break at work. ... and in reflection reading FTR at lunch maybe a low-point in my life, but hey that's just self pitying, and that's really grind my gears.

Yes, excessive self-pity (don't get me started!) ... Those who are so depressed about their own social standing and situation that they choose to broadcast it to seek pity from others.

For some real people, life is tough. No I'm not referring to the poverty stricken plains of Africa or the violent jungles of the Philippines; I'm referring to the 3rd world-living-on-the-breadline state of peoples lives in the UK, and even in the capital city! Yet, some of the happiest real people I know own nothing but the clothes on their back, and the most generous people I know are those with the least money out of all of my friends.

So, for those who are wallowing in their own self pity about how tragic it is that some 'emo' or 'chav' pushed in-front of them at the Liddle checkout queue. TTFU! Toughen The F*ck Up. or STFU preferably both!

I don't mind a winge, a moan, a rant about your hardships, we all do that; but excessive public wallowing over some small social tragedy is just not acceptable in my eyes! ... Just because the girl you dated for a brief 4 months is cheating on her new boyfriend with somebody who isn't you, is not a cause to claim personal hardship! Argh - I think I might go slit my own throat with all this madness! ... and there's another rant for later: Hypocrites! :?

The dictionary of UBMC has the following entry for old git minibus driver:

A person who helps the club in their time of need, most often going out of their way - attending trips they don't want to go on. More commonly seen when someone doesn't book tests for current committee members.

So with an old git driving a minibus, why is it a person feels this underlying urge to take the piss further over simple requests such as allowing a co-driver who isn't a fresher?

Such a simple request...... so hard to solve!

What really does my head in is people who don't understand discussion.

The whole of civilization is built upon people sharing and evaluating ideas. Without it there would be no science, language or art. It's not personal and it's not malicious it's about about improving things for everyone.

Believe it or not a forum is a place to discuss things (that includes this forum). If you don't believe me look up the definition of Forum. If you can't handle that maybe you shouldn't be here.

FTR is the new UKC... honestly.

ANYWAY...

Yes Tess you're right, it is nice to see passionate members of the club sharing their experience and ideas in the hope of improving others enjoyment of climbing. That is after all what UKC and FTR are for.
