Shoes: Scarper Boostersss! yeh boi!
Scotland Kit list!

We need to make sure people are going to be prepared with kit for the trip because it's going to be a pretty chilly week!

KIT LIST
Try to 'Beg, borrow and steel' as much as possible- the meeting will be a good chance to do this! Second hand stuff is usually much cheaper- try UKC (http://www.ukclimbing.com/forums/i.php?f=3) / ebay / club members.
Also places like TKmax can have some really good bargains and http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/ do a price match and beat the price by 10% !

Kit List:

A Rucksack (suitable for climbing, between 35l and 50l)
Suitable Boots (B2 or B3 so they can fit our crampons) (ask if you’re not sure)
Waterproof jacket
Waterproof trousers
A pair of Gaiters (optional)
Gloves (one thick, one thin + as many pairs as you can find)
A warm hat or Balaclava (that fits under your helmet)
Trousers to shag in
Fleeces
Base layers - a few Thermal tops and a pair of Thermal bottoms or tights
Thick Socks
A Down jacket / synthetic equivalent (optional)
A Head torch
Compass (optional)
A couple of water Bottles (1L)
Sun glasses and/or Goggles
An Orange Survival Bag
Clothes to wear when not climbing
A sleeping bag to use in the hut (there is heating in the hut so about 2 seasons will be sufficient)
Belay plate & prussic(s)
Harness & Helmet (Can be borrowed from club, let me know before the end of term!)
(if you have your own/spare crampons/axes please let me know as we need a few more)
(a few group shelters would be good)
personal first aid kit (optional)

Please post below if you have scouted out any good deals for winter kit that you recommend for others.

Any question just ask!!

A pair of cheap trousers that you don't mind getting trashed the first time you use crampons :-)

Good over trousers: http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/product-sea ... age-slider

I definitely recommend goggles over sun glasses as it's usually very windy up there. Unlike the Alps, in Scotland you need to worry more about the snow in your face than the glare!

JJB sports may be worth checking out as they often have Helly Hanson baselayers on offer, remember getting mine for £14 instead of £30.

I have a Storm shelter - although its only a 2 man. I remember seeing a couple more at Low House so we may be able to borrow some from within the club.

Fleeces - one you have the club fleece you may want another. Cotswolds are doing some good ones half price. Presume you can get the equivalent womens version.

Are Quechua Forclaz 500 boots not suitable?

Hey Brain. I don't think so, they don't appear to be "B-rated." A quick test is to pick them up and try to bend the sole across it's length, if it flexes - they will be no good to take a crampon :(

Check out this forum to pick up a pair of suitable second hand boots (rated at B2 or B3) or ask around club members as some may have a pair to lend :)

Hope this helps!

Bring your boots to a redpoint session or to our meeting at the guild on the 1st of Dec if you need one of us to check if they'll be suitable.

Some of you have been asking about boots...make sure you get B2 or B3 rated boots, they'll be stiff enough for crampons.

Any of these brands would be good:

http://www.gooutdoors.co.uk/climbing/wi ... ring-boots

i'd get to cotswolds to try some on and them for advice. But don't forget to check out second hand deals on fb!

:-)
