Hi guys,
with the weather being so shitty these days, it seems to be quite hard to organize a trip. My question is, which crag would you recommend is easiest to get to via public transport? Just in case there is nothing planned and the weather looks nice I just want to jump on a train and go climbing :) :alien:

I've posted this so many times before.... :P

Wildcat, High Tor, Willersey all near Matlock Bath, one train from newstreet to Matlock or Cromford and walk.

Black Rocks, same train to cromford.

Train to Bristol and bus or taxi to Avon Gorge.

P.S. There's actually loads around Matlock, those are the best and biggest though.

It's not necessarily simple to get to but if you want sum dam gud bouldering churnet is a gud bet. The advantage is that at least one of the mini crags there is just about rain proof, so if you do get rained on you should still b able to get sum climin in.

To get there catch a train to stoke n then catch the 32a from henley bus station to alton. Message us if you want the details.

You can also get to curbar, froggat, burbage, millstone, cratcliffe, eagle tor and a couple of others on public transport.

I take it then that crag is just one huge overhang!

Nesscliffe can be done, and it's probably the closest and cheapest good place to go. Train to shrewsbury then a bus to the crag.

I'm pretty sure Pontesford is do-able as well, train to shrewsbury then bus, although i don't know the details. There's fair few routes to do there from mod into the low e's, you can definatly spend a good day there. And it was in fact Partly developed by the club back in the day!

You could also have a look in the West Midlands guidebook for idea's of were to go. Some of it's free from here (Including pontesford rocks) http://westmidlandsrock.co.uk/ the club also has a copy.

Rosie and I went to the Malvern hills in our first year and that was really cheap to get to, a fiver return on the train i think, but It was raining and dirty and i took a bit of a fall, luckily I caught a tree on the way down, it scared Rosie though :D It wasn't a particularly inspiring place to go, but maybe that's just because it was raining...
