This is a surprise. I thought you were one of those "let's be cold and miserable and walk for 5 hours in the snow" type people :P

Jokes aside, climbing in the warm sun isn't that fun, if I remember correctly from last summer. That's why sport climbing in the Alps is a good shout, because it's high up and the perfect temperature and sunny, and it's epic. And probably the same in Romania if there are climbs high up.

Also, Harry, I was thinking USA as well but probably not realistic for a big trip. I was speaking to Jack and Switzerland could be a plan. Lots of mountaineering and climbing to suit both parties. Plus we could drive.

I only skimmed through the majority of these, but Sandra your Romania idea sounds pretty freakin' epic! Besides that, I am in for anything anyone plans, I reckon. I can even contribute to the planning if you really want, instead of just rocking up with a rucksack like last year.

Woooo summer climbing!! :D

I am also very keen for a summer trip(s)... The one to Romania, Sandra mentioned, sounds awesome. :)

lol that made me laugh. Looks like there's a lot of interest, which is good! Could be a big crowd heading out. I'm going to do some research on the Carpathians to get a grip on the Romania thing. Sounds pretty epic!

I'm definitely going sport climbing (and bouldering) somewhere, and it will probably be for a couple weeks in September after summer work has usually finished and before uni begins. So Robin, this may work for you...

Thinking about The Magic Wood in Switz and the Dolomites. Or/And Spain (which if Roxy is still out there, definitely gonna swing by where she is.)

So psyched to shag in the warm sun.

(On looking into it only just now, seems the Magic Woods would be silly for me to go to as it sounds like a lot of grades out of my league...)

Don't be put off, a 5+ in Magic Wood is a lot easier than a 5+ in font. Besides which i don't care what people think about Font, Magic Wood is much better, it's just a lot more effort to get to.

Wow, I didn't expect this much enthusiasm for Romania lol, but it's great to see that you guys are really up for it! I'm pretty overwhelmed with work and the like at the moment, but I shall soon return with details for a possible Carpathian adventure. I need to do some research myself haha cause I haven't checked what exactly's going on this year, was talking from past experience.

I'd like to go to a new place this year though... or maybe do both things if there's actually going to be two groups and the timing works out. Switzerland sounds absolutely awesome btw, totally up for that, I also kinda have my mind set on the Alps this summer. I realised I won't actually be free before mid-July though, had totally forgotten about my graduation lol.

Also, I checked Conville (http://www.pyb.co.uk/courses-conville-alpine.php) and applications are closed, but it says deadline's 2nd of April, so I'm guessing they haven't actually started yet? Since this is in Chamonix and people might be going somewhere else, how is this going to work? Do course people go do their thing and then meet the rest of the group somewhere (as far as I can see, it's only me and Rachel interested in this so far) Or maybe we could find a different course close to where everyone's gonna be? :P I'll research that as well if we defo decide for Switzerland lol

Yeah I think the applications being closed is because it is talking about last year? I had a quick look myself. I couldn't find much info re. the wheres and whens of the course - can those who have done it before give us a clue? Let's keep an eye on it.
Other than us I think Henry was interested.

But yeah, if it doesn't fit with a group trip then it's not the end of the world. I'd prioritise a group trip over the course I think.

True, it's not that warm though...

I don't know when they'll open but last year it was either February or March. I'd check once a week or so (keep it in your favourites maybe to remind you) then do the application asap. Or if you're running for Mountain Sec it might be worth waiting till after the AGM because you'll definitely get priority.

The course is in Chamonix for 3 days. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I think last year it ran from something like the 1st of June till the 10th of July ish (there are about 8 different to choose from). Definitely end of June and beginning of July anyway, but you'll see the dates when you do the application.

If you're interested in getting some mountain skills i totally recommend it because it's such great value for money and it forces to get out there and do loads of stuff. I'm pretty keen to go back to the Alps as well actually. Who's up for a MEGA road trip via the Alps to Romania? haha

Before any dates are set it may be worth waiting till course people know what they're doing. Last year we only really sorted anything out in May. But just bear in mind that if you make plans for the summer it could cross with the future trip plan!

Lol I love it how people are so open about this trip. I guess it's just a case of organizing something and seeing who can make it and when. I shall get on it nearer the time! :D

I've heard Canada is a pretty cool place....not that I'd know or anything! ha.

There's some pretty amazing bouldering at Squamish (about an hour up the road from me) and some more locally as well. The 'Chief' is near too! There's a lack of mountaineering in the Summer, but its a beautiful place! Although, I might be able to be persuaded to meet you guys down in Yosemite since its on my (admittedly, very long) list of places to go!

Keep me posted :)
