Hello to all my UBMC pals,

So, this summer I am going to Nepal. I'm going to be spending a month of my time there volunteering in an orphanage in Pokhara called Annapurna Self-sustaining Orphan Home - a non-profit and non-governmental organisation, that is home to just 15 children, aged between 2 and 15. It is currently 25% self-sustainable, thanks to vegetables that they grow, the farm animals that they own, and some solar panels. They are currently working towards being more self-sustainable.

I discovered this orphan home through Ecoteer, which some of you may have heard of. It is an online organisation that puts volunteers in touch with charities, organisations and businesses all over the world. I was instantly interested in Annapurna Self-Sustaining Orphan Home, and will now be going to Nepal in July, to help out at this inspiring place (if all goes to plan!).

So, you guessed it...I have decided to do some fundraising before I go, which is why I need YOUR help :-)

On 27th May, as a keeno road biker (well, I was two years ago...), I will be cycling the Tour of the Peak - a 65 mile (100km) cycle event that takes on some of the steepest and longest roads of England's Peak District. I have persuaded (forced...?) three friends to undertake this challenge with me - thanks Harry, Mark and Roxy! We hope to complete the challenge within 6.5 hours (this is really ambitious, but seven hours didn’t have the same ring to it...).

So far, Harry has managed to nick a road bike off a friend, Roxy has not yet found one to borrow (anyone...?), and what with our final exams (Mark, you have absolutely no excuse), we will inevitably be completely unprepared. I'm sure you'll all agree that we're in for a tough day (but a FUN one too! Unless it pisses it down all day, in which case it will be truly miserable.).

The problem is, however, that Annapurna Home is not a registered charity, given its size. This makes fundraising for it somewhat harder, given that I can't use websites like JustGiving, etc.. So we're going back to the old days... For those of you willing to sponsor me, please post below – your name, a contact detail, and the sponsor amount. That way, I’ll be able to keep track of my sponsors, and chase you all up after 27 May. I plan on writing a cheque and giving it straight to the Home in the summer (I'm going to take a photo, to prove to y'all that I haven't pocketed your hard-earned money ;-) ), therefore people can give me cash / cheques, or just transfer it to me, for the technologically-able amongst you. Rest assured that all the money I raise will be going straight to the Annapurna Home

Here is Annapurna Home's website (I can't guarantee the up-to-date-ness of this though, but it gives you some basic info and photos):
http://www.annapurnahome.org

...and here is a great little video about the Home that you can watch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAk4s-Se ... ure=relmfu

So, please, check out the website and watch the video to see what a good cause I'm supporting, and then pop your name, number/email and sponsor amount below. It'll only take you two tics, I promise! And it's bloody worth it :-)

I know the vast majority of us are all poor students, but 50p (less than the cost of a creme egg) from all of you would go a hella' long way!

PAYPAL HERE

Thanks so much for taking the time to read this.

Lots of love,

Tess xx

Ignore all the stuff I wrote above (well, not all of it)... Read the relevant parts, and then sponsor me here:

It really is a great cause, it only takes watching the short video to realise that. Three other UBMC comrades will be coming along for the ride, so show us some love, please!

Thanks to the hero who tried to sort my first post out.

And Twigger, I await your bank details babes.
Bisous
