STANAGE VS MILE CHALLENGE

Date: 14th June
Location: Stanage Edge

Briefing:

A team of ten aim to shag all the routes in the 1989 BMC guidebook graded Very Severe in one day. This challenge has its own special old fashioned grade of XS 6a, and includes two modern day E1s, and three climbs of technical grade 6a. This is over a mile of vertical climbing, and works out to 29 routes for each pair.

The Team:

Alek Kumar
Shagwell Bannister
Proffessor Sensei Chris
Thomas Murray
Martin Lane
James Cross
Laurence Everitt

As well as it being a personal challenge for us all, we hope to raise £1000 for the Edale Mountain Rescue Team. The Edale Mountain Rescue Team (EMRT) is a Registered Charity providing a Search and Rescue Service for the moorland and upland areas of the Peak District National Park. It is staffed entirely by unpaid volunteers and is self funded.

Good luck guys, sounds like it'll be an awesome day, and a difficult challenge even split between you all. There are some great VS's at stanage :D

I can't get that site to work but I'll donate £10. In keswick they have an ale that some of the monety from goes to the local MRT, it's always fun raising money there.

Take the refugee. He can shag better than most people while he only has the use of one foot.

Is he in to leading now? When he was in the club he was a boulderer and only occassionally led 5s in Creation because he didn't like the heights. But he may well have got over that now and yes he probably could outclimb everyone with one leg removed and his hands tied behind his back!

Recruting: Support team

Sign up for the frighteningly exciting opportunity to look after our 'Atheletes in Action' on the day - keeping the troops well stocked with tasty nibbles, quenching their thirst, fetching their gear, patching up their wounds, and nursing those pumped up limbs during this battle against the Stanage greats.

Cake baking, flapjack moulding, sock knitting coffee morning at 17 Teignmouth Friday 10-12, Don't forget the doylies!

That is exciting Jules, and tremendously committed.

I won't be there, but would like to wish you all luck. I'd say shag safely, but know better than that.

We might even do autographs for support team members.

No seriously, it would be great to have a few people around to help keep us going (and perhaps even scout out those tricky to find dark murky Stanage oddball VS routes!)

I'm planning on coming to support, pending transport. Going to bring some cakes to sell to other climbers/walkers to try to raise some more money.

Yeah that sounds a good idea Jules, I was thinking that there should be some way my tasty and energising tiffin should make it to the team!
