Having gathered general interest in people's interests for summer, I've decided to make some plans that people can either join or make their own.

I hope to have a car to be able to take out, and Jack and I have decided to do something similar to what we did last year - go to Chamonix to do some alpine stuff for 2 or 3 weeks then do some sport and bouldering (probably in Switzerland).

We're leaving soon after Glastonbury, so around the 3rd of July. Some people are graduating so exact leaving date can be decided once people know what they're doing (this may mean people that are graduating later meeting us out there).

I hope to stay at least 4 weeks out there, maybe 5, so the return will be at least the end of July. Again, this exact date will be decided nearer the time once people know what they're doing.

So the point of this thread is to see:

1. Who can make and wants to do all or some of the aforementioned activities in July.
2. Who can drive (looks like this is going to be a limiting factor).

Several people have mentioned they aren't interested in Alpine, in which case a second wave can meet us out there in mid-late July to do sport/bouldering.

I realise this is a bit early and people may not know what they're doing yet but I figured this might as well get jotted in the calendar! :D

Please be specific in your replies, as the last thread just became a long list of interested people with no concrete intentions. This means say when you're free, how long you want to stay and what you wand to do.

Ahoyhoy! While I think alpine actually sounds immense, I am under qualified in every single way, so perhaps another year before I get my winter on. However, sport/bouldering in Switzerland sounds freakin' awesome. I am free all summer as soon as my exams are finished, but am completely unable to drive so am somewhat unhelpful on that front.

Hope that was specific enough!

I would like to come along for sport/bouldering in Switzerland, if possible. I'm free after July 4th, so the latter part of July sounds fine to me.

Also, I am happy to drive - whether my car is as willing remains to be seen, but for the time being assume I'll be able to.

Cheers Mauricio.

I'm up for alpine and then sport until the end of July

I'm already out in the Alps from the 1st-14th June, but I'm thinking I'll come home and then drive out again with everyone else and do the conville course while you're in Chamonix. The latest dates for the course that are up are from the 3rd-5th July, so it's going to be tight for the course if you aren't going until after Glastonbury.

Can't wait for summer! :thumleft:

Sounds like you guys will have an awesome time.

Not sure how you'll manage any winter though, it'll be the middle of summer!

(Due to arguments over first winter ascents in the past, technically a winter ascent must occur between the 21st of December and 21st of March to be official)

And I'm sure you'll cope just fine with the alps heather, you don't really need any winter experience (although it helps) as mostly the only snow you'll touch will just be walking really. Crampons and axes are no big deal! Getting fit and speedy at trad is probably the most important, but even without that there are loads of alpine routes you can do.

Bouldering and sport in Swizzy sounds like a great idea to me :D Maybe spend some time outside of Switzerland itself to avoid CRUSHING prices and silly different currency...

In theory I am free for ALL the time, bar graduating, and can drive. Looking to spend about 3/4 weeks away in various parts of Europe hitting up some sport.

Very keen to get back to Ceuse (6 hours from Magic Wood) if enough people are interested but happy to go with the majority :)

In essence:
  • Can drive
  • Free all the time
  • Keen for 3/4 weeks of crushing sport and boulders

Great! Lots of drivers! Sounds like we'll be able to get a decent group down.

You guys (Sam and Harry) could meet us out there then. I'm not desperate to go back to Ceuse if I'm honest hahaha - way too hard for me. But yeah the Switzerland thing was just to get a change of scenery and maybe some cooler air as it'll be a bit higher up than the south of France. But definitely open to discussion and we could always split up.

Definitely agree with Tom about experience for the Alps. Most important thing is common sense climbing knowledge, so if anyone is keen don't be put off by the scariness! (Also, thank you for pointing out the dates of Winter Tom :P). Need to double check with some other guys if they can make it but if not then I'll have two spare seats in my car if you want to come for Alpine. :D

I won't be able to commit to anything until April time-ish as this is when I'll probably have finished any internship recruitment processes.

From that I'll either be in an internship in July so unable to come or I'll be free but poor.

So if I'm free, I'll do some work and I should be able to drive. Sorry for being annoying and unspecific :P

Hey all.

So sadly my degree pretty much precludes me from joining your AMAZING SOUNDING plans... but I am free from 3rd-30th August so if anyone is still out in Europe in early August let me know and I may come join you. I'll be applying for the Conville course so it'll also depend if/when I get on that..
Otherwise keep me updated re any August plans elsewhere and I might join you there.

Sorry this isn't such a relevant post, just wanted to make my position known...

ALSO if August actually works better for anyone else who wants to head out to the Alps - let me know, and we can make some plans :D

Hey guys, I'm quite keen to get to Switzerland for some sport/bouldering, though admittedly I don't know anything about sport in the area. I'm up for driving and my graduation is before the 12th of July, so I'd be very much up for going in that second wave spoken about. I've chatted to Top Bon about possibly sharing the driving out there (I'll be changing my car in June) but that decision is sort of pending as to the price of insuring the car.

Hey

I'd definitely be up for joining the second wave to Switzerland for some sport and bouldering. Loved Switzerland when I went last year so keen to get back there. Although prices are expensive! Free all summer so I can fit in with whatever the drivers plans are. Don't have a car though so can't drive.

Getting excited :)

Looks like you might be in luck because the course dates are pretty much all in June, which is when you're free. So if you manage to score yourself a place you could go out a bit earlier :D

I'm up for both alpine in France and sport in Switzerland, planning to stick around for as long as I can afford it.

My graduation will be somewhere between the 3rd -12th July and I'm ready to leave Bham straight after, pretty much free for the rest of the summer after that. I'm also really keen on the conville course, but the dates they have listed so far clash with graduation... So I'm not yet sure what to do about that...

I don't have a car, so it would be ideal if I could join someone who's driving to France around those dates. If not, I could make my own way to France and meet team alpine there :)

Sports/bouldering in Switzerland sounds awesome! I'd just be concerned about my general lack of experience :? And i don't have a car which isn't helpful. But I'm pretty much free until august and really keen :)

Awesome! Do you mean you're free until the beginning of August or until the end of August?
