Haha, I doubt he'd be so eager if he knew what he was getting himself into. MILF-Hunter, are you going to attempt Valkyrie again?

Is that a dig at me? I think lowering off last time was a pretty good decision since I was seconding but had no gear to retrieve, it was dark, and people wanted to go home, was just quicker to lower off.

am i right in guessing you live near Ilkley or is this someone else? :?
i can get the train to ilkley/leeds/somewhere on the way to manchester. were you planning on going down the M1/M60?
don't know where exactly but i think Harry lives near Sheffield which, if you weren't planning on going down the M1, is a bit of a shitter...

Wow....

Hey, it isn't that unreasonable! It's about an hour and a half drive, and I think we arrived about 9.00/9.30 last time.

If I try to pick people up at around 7 30! FISH CHUGGER then andy then MILF-Hunter (what number is it i'll put it in the sat nav)

Who actually knows the post code/ whatever to get to the roaches this could be a problem. Gear shouldn't be too bad, but another rope might be helpfull.... if anyone's got one that we could borrow?!?!?!?!?!?

Id love to attempt a severe or lead some even easier stuff I don't mind, just want to Klimb.

I dont think 9 30 is too unreasonable by the time we start off.

Hallie, man up and leave really early!

Your record isnt great at the roaches MILF-Hunter.......there was that huge fall you took not too long ago on a shag you had seconded before and knew the gear placements.

From experience guys, pick your routes. Doing something too hard can not only be painful but far from being helpful to your climbing level it can really screw up your confidence. I tried to jump on a HS when I had done about 3 previous leads, the next thing i knew I had been spat off, hit a ledge and had phil pulling me out a nettle bush!

Hope you have a great day though!

MILF-Hunter, I was referring to the enjoyment you had with Tom H after playing rock paper scissors to lead the top pitch. Didn't realise you'd tried it again.

Pat, I said wow cause getting there that early is impressive! I'l be setting off a little later after a bit of a lie in. :-)

I know you're saying to not be complacent or bite off more than you can true and it's good advice but to comment on my record is a bit unfair. My ropes getting stuck on valkyrie is the only problem i've had there, last time i lowered off cos it was late, josh had lead it and i wasnt bothered about seconding. My big fall was at a different crag and while it was a whipper i definitely learnt from it. and you're right it does knock your confidence. I havent lead above vs trad since. Those are the only times ive been rescued or fallen (apart from working sport routes or resting on gear). Plenty of people in the club have taken big falls or been rescued more than that and don't get stick for it.

Josh, I live just by the corner of Dartmouth road and Tiverton road. If you give me a call on 07738 516604 when you arrive that's probably best, my house is hidden up an alley.

From today, mon amigo JT & I had the whole of the Roaches to ourselves! :) aside from a few boulderers below us, we only managed to get three routes done, when our average is about 5-6 :( - but it was SO cold we kinda slowed down.

Leaving my house in Wolvo at 8 we got there for 9:40, we left in the evening quite early around 5 ish.
So getting there early is key to get ahead of any school groups & to 'shotgun' routes.

I'm only suggesting this schedlue, since it allows for faf time with more people, and if you all have work [revision!] to do, then you can still get some routes in to be home by 6:30 to do some work! :|

Josh, I can be in Stoke on trent railway station for as early as 7am! & you can drive though stoke on the way there. So if I get to Stoke on Trent railway for 8:50 we can easily be at the Roaches for before half 9? - Plus with my workload atm, i'm a "maybe" - so a pick up at the train station can alleviate hassle should I have to back out, as it won't affect your transport plans.

If that sound alright?

*Anybody want to strap a bouldering mat to the top of their car!? - I think a touch of bouldering might get me back into the groove of doing delicate slab routes. - If there's no space, I'm not fussed

On the other hand...

looks like we may be stuck car-wise & Since I was a bit slow of the mark to reply & I've already been today, I'm happy to bow out & leave you guys to have fun up there yourselves. [i've a shit load of work to do atm]

GIVE ME A TEXT to let me know your decision. :)

This could slow the whole day down a lot, but if harry and jake were to train it in, somebody could "shuttle" between the crag and the station. - But this is very inefficient and I doubt you'd want to drive that much!
