Just thought I'd see what type of climbing was everyones favourite.

Obviously mine is bouldering but:

I plan to get at least 30 Severe's done over the next few months. This is to improve my confidence of climbing high and to trust my gear placements. The rack that i take over summer is definately going to get just as much as use as anyone elses.... except Gareth's. So maybe my preference will change! Infact I'm even looking at buying some trad gear!

However, Bouldering is my favourite, because i can shag at my 100% knowing that I'm not going to die if I fall off. And it's a lot quicker with a hell of a lot less faff!!! Also I quite like being able to work on problems with a load of other people. Makes it all that more sociable.

That's just me....

I'm really bored from revision by the way... :elephant:

you're so cute...

:alien:

Everything apart from trad. That is not so cool, and it's only because I haven't grown the balls to do it yet that i don't enjoy it.

Jeanes' goal of the year/her life is to grow a pair :thumleft:

No contest. Trad all the way, just for the feeling of satisfaction when you top out having approached a crag unaltered by man and climbed it, leaving no trace behind.

'The risk intensifies the experience of the shag and the feelings you get; the adrenaline is much greater an it becomes more real; suddenly, its not an ambition any more.' Dave Mac

Pretty much sums up the hard trad game for me. I can remember vividly certain moves on trad routes that I've found difficult or where to fall would have been pretty messy. I've carried that 'shit i've just topped out feeling' around with me for days after certain routes. It leaves an imprint on your mind in a way that other types of climbing can't. With sport in particular every route just seems like another number you forget within a few minutes.

Having said that I was pretty inspired by some of the boulder problems in font. First time I've really felt the same excitement for bouldering as I do for trad climbing. Loved the process of working from impossible to possible to success. I can definitely see the appeal where I couldn't in the past.

And I haven't deep water soloed properly yet, so watch this space...

I know of someone who died bouldering, no area of climbing or mountaineering is without risk.

My favourite is trad. There's something so satisfying about it. I can't really describe it, but when you know, you'll know, you know? Even if the moves aren't at your limit, when you're doing them 20 feet or 200 feet up a cliff they're a lot more memorable.

Try to think of trad as loads of bouldering problems on top of each other, which you try to make as safe as possible, and enjoy the view.

You forgot DWS off the list. Soloing is the purest form of climbing and you get the safety of the water not a very messy landing. :D

Trad close second. There is room for sport and you get some awesome lines that would be unprotected if you climbed them trad. Bouldering way down the list, just for training for longer routes really.

I was struggling to decide between mountaineering and ice/winter climbing. It's like what you guys said about trad, the satisfaction from doing a long route or doing something you find hard that you can't afford to cock up is just gives it a greater dimension than bouldering or sport etc.

There's more to mountaineering and ice than trad though, you have to think more, it's more committing and serious, the positions are more wild, and the fact you can't do it all the time i think adds something.

In the end i chose ice climbing, it's just so much fun! The best day's I've had have been doing long winter routes, you get so excited/nervous before a route, because you never really know if it's going to be in good enough condition to do, when you're doing it it feels so good (and scary sometimes), every good axe placement is just like YES! And when it's done you're so knackered satisfied and happy, it's just so good!

Balls. I added DWS and it deleted all the votes. Typical....
